There's perfectly circular, which is what you would see, would expect to see in a normal supersonic strike regime, strike velocity.
Okay.
Not quite circular would be normal at a subsonic strike velocity.
The bullet has what we would call a minor impact.
dynamic instability.
The bullet basically cannot fly at zero angle of attack with respect to its velocity.
And as a result, you get this elongated hole in the target.
Okay.
And the last one is a keyhole.
And I would tell you that's not
something that you would see under normal flight circumstances.
That means the bullet probably has hit something else before it hit the target.
Now, you can also see those short range if you have inadequate twist rate.
But here we're presuming we have enough stability to get us past the first 300 yards of flight.
So if you're seeing a keyhole at very long ranges,
What's happened is you've piled into the dirt or you've hit a bird in flight or a branch or something else.
Baffle strike.
Baffle strike.
I think you would tend to not get to the target.
Okay.
