Quartz was common to, they would nap it, right?
They would, they would polish it up.
Quartz of course has not, you know, it's unusual to find a specimen that doesn't have some sort of inclusions.
Yeah.
So that's tough.
Yeah.
We also have some apocryphal stories about Nero using a emerald and
as a magnifier because a polished gemstone could be used.
I, let's put it this way.
Of course, Nero being Nero.
Yeah, of course he would have something like that.
Right.
Of course.
That just feels right.
I do believe that the earliest eyeglasses were readers for looking at things up close.
And most of the eyeglasses in our collection here at the Museum of the Eye are readers.
And they also had some alternatives.
So theaters, operas, and that sort of thing, there was a lot of folks who wanted to see the theater better, right?
And they were actually using miniature telescopes.
