Professor Drew Shindell from Duke University in the US is one of the report's authors.
The researchers say the problem is worse where plastic accumulates, such as over the area of the Pacific known as the Great Garbage Patch.
They argue that this previously unknown effect of microplastics should be considered in future climate assessments.
