I am genuinely shocked, having engaged with people of the real affection, respect, love and admiration that there still is for Veronica.
That was a shock to me, it was a shock to my wife, it was a shock to my family, because that was the single biggest wow factor in this whole thing, that 30 years on,
Everyone tells a story about where they were.
People want to help.
People want to tell you what they knew.
But if I can tell you a story that to me is a slight funny side to it as well.
A number of weeks ago, Easter Saturday, because our kids were coming home each Sunday, so we'd go into Dunn's and Dunne Mead to get Luan to get last minute stuff.
And while we're there, I get a phone call from a very, very well-known business person, type producer,
And I just want to say what we're doing and what you're doing for your sister and everything else.
So I'm talking for about two or three minutes and I'm on my way over to tell Luanne because it was really nice and this fella stopped me.
And he said, you Jimmy Geard?
And I said, I am, yeah.
And he says, your sister was a fucking diamond.
And within 30 seconds, I had two people miles apart with the same message.
And I said to myself, that's part of her legacy, that people still remember and respect that.
The single most important part of Veronica's legacy is her son.
You see, the cab and journalism and the fight against drugs and all that, that pales into insignificance when you look at her grandchild that she never saw or you look at her son.
That's her legacy.
It's the laugh.
It's the mischievous.
