What a day we've just had.
A man in his 40s following Westmead in the late 80s and early 90s.
We were shite.
And I mean really, really shite.
I remember Wicklow beating us in the Leinster Championship in Athlone in the mid-90s.
And we scored a grand tally of three points against Wicklow in the whole game.
Oh, God.
Wicklow beat them last year in the Talton Cup as well.
They score more than three points, I hope.
I remember attending a birthday party when I was seven years old and one of the parents asked all the kids who they'd play for when they grew up.
This was in Mullingar.
All of the kids said they'd play for one of their parents' counties, Dublin, Wexford, Offaly, Monaghan.
I said I wanted to play for Westmeath and everyone laughed at me.
One parent quipped, if you're happy being beaten all the time.
Watching Westmeath march the ball down the field as the clock ticked towards the end of extra time...
against a visibly flagging Dublin side as our supporters roared them on is something I will never forget.
Hopefully the achievement of this does not satisfy them and we can continue to perform in the All-Ireland Series.
This morning, though, we bask.
On days like this, I believe in God again, says Jimmy in Spain.
Just to give Jimmy's brother a shout out.
