We were touching on the cost of the trains and public transport at the World Cup.
Next summer, there was the story about how a return trip for the New York MetLife Games, if you're coming from New York City, you're going to be kind of...
$150 return for an 18-mile journey, whereas usually they're $3.
So Ian is over in the area.
A listener based in New York here.
The reason the train tickets are $150 for these games is to cover the cost that New Jersey and New York will face for putting on the extra trains to get fans to the stadium.
They estimate this cost at $60 million.
The train system here is chronically underfunded, as is, and the subway system is a mess due to its age and lack of investment.
There is also little or no parking allowed at the stadium because of FIFA.
There's a large mall beside the stadium, which has limited parking.
You can get a parking space for $250 on gameplay.
What no one's talking about is the stadium is serviced by only two train tracks.
I've attended multiple events at that stadium.
Soccer, American football, monster trucks, wrestling.
Now you're listening.
And concerts.
And it's always been difficult to get a train there.
And that's with thousands of people driving around.
Because ordinarily you could drive and there'd be lots of parking around the stadium.
And people leaving at staggered times as tends to happen in American sports.
