It's too much Steve Coogan playing Mick McCarthy for me, and it never really gets away from that.
Well, let's move on to that then, because Saipan is about picking sides.
So which side does this movie pick?
And I think we would all agree it's in the keen camp.
And here's a very interesting clip of Steve Coogan, which Ronan found.
And Coogan, it seems, was actually of the same opinion when he reads the script.
So here he is talking about contacting Mick McCarthy.
Yeah, but not for the reasons, actually, that I do in real life.
In real life, I feel Mick is...
And none of us know the real anybody.
So, you know, you're just judging from afar and so much as you can.
In real life, here's how I see Mick McCarthy.
A decent man.
Seems like a good man.
Strong character.
Knows himself.
Knows what he's about.
Reasonable.
But also like, as we saw in 2002, has a certain stubbornness as well.
And so I felt sorry for that guy in that position where, you know, his better instincts of being reasonable and decent in the midst of the pressure cooker of Saipan with Roy Keane, who at times is unmanageable, ended up in like the worst five days of his managerial career.
