I was getting ready to go to school.
It was like two and a half blocks from my house, something like that.
You go past Pomona, and then the next street was
Ashbury, and the school was on Ashbury up about two blocks, Harding School.
Anyway, I'm getting ready to go to school, got my lunch.
I'm about to turn off the radio and this commercial comes on.
I was listening to R&B, the Rhythm and Blues channel from Oakland.
And the DJ suddenly says, do you have the Wash Day Blues?
Is this day going to be drudgery?
Well, maybe you're using the wrong – and they went off talking about laundry soap.
I don't know if there was a song involved in the commercial.
I think it was just a red – because it was probably live right there on old-time radio.
So I went out the door carrying my little sack with the lunch in it.
I said, Wash Day Blues, wow.
I get kind of to the end of the street.
