So that became the, let's do that.
Let's do an end run around record companies and just bring the thing straight to the station.
Well, they loved Susie Q. They started playing it probably eight times a day.
Each different disc jockey would play it.
It's eight minutes and 20 seconds long or whatever, right?
And that was really the true beginning.
My songwriting wasn't great.
But somewhere right after the album came out, I wanted to make that point.
Everybody had ample opportunity to write a song.
And it just kind of wasn't coming.
I would show up at the rehearsals.
Well, anybody got a song, you know, and everybody got real quiet.
And so I said, well, look, okay, let's work on this.
And I began to realize inside that it was going to be up to me.
I want to control everything, it was, I got to start rolling this boat or we're going to sink in the middle of the ocean.
So I started pushing myself harder and harder.
The first album comes out on my birthday, 1968.
