So we're gathered together to talk about Penelope Fitzgerald.
And before we start talking about human voices, one of the things I really love about Penelope Fitzgerald, now I've read Hermione Lee's biography, is that Penelope Fitzgerald really liked watching TV.
That's one of the things that comes through loud and clear.
She was a big fan of settling down in front of the telly.
So we're going to start with a clip of Penelope Fitzgerald.
Her work has been adapted for film.
This book we're talking about today, Human Voices, is currently being adapted for BBC TV.
And she was on TV just a couple of weeks ago thus far.
If he'd said three kittens, he would have got 16.
So I just thought that was a sign.
