He must have tried to screw me over.
It often falls down to the phrases used and then the interpretation of what the question is.
Because you can ask, will he overtake me?
As in, based on his fuel trajectory and the pace he's on, is he due therefore to overtake me?
And the answer is no.
But then, will he overtake me?
If I slow down.
The question is, is there any team orders or anything in play?
And then the answer is no.
You think, oh, well, there's no team orders.
This is all fine.
But in races, you haven't got time to sit down.
You're not trying to sort out a massive contract where you're debating 15 terms and going backwards and forwards between lawyers on interpretations of what will means and what does overtake me mean and define it and come down and then sign the form.
You're in a fight for the race lead.
It's a conversation.
You can think you've given the perfect answer at the time for an innocuous question.
I'm sure loads of these conversations happen all the time based on interpretations that aren't actually what you were asked, but it never flares up into a moment.
It's when these little events happen, a question gets asked, interpreted one way, answers interpreted a different way, and it creates these flashpoints.
And remember also the team order situation.
