The sheriff's office received a call of a body that had been found in rural Carver County.
The murder of Earl Olander was a brutal, horrific crime.
His hands were tied behind his back with duct tape.
We assumed that it was somebody from the area or somebody that Earl knew that had killed him.
There are cases that you will remember over 32 years, and this is certainly one of those.
The sheriff's office received a call on April 11, 2015, about 7 o'clock at night, of a body that had been found in rural Carver County, and that it appeared to be a homicide.
I went down there as soon as I found out about what had happened.
The first thing we had to do was make sure there wasn't anybody still here or anybody else that was hurt.
We did see some footprints in the kitchen.
One was in a drawer, and then one was on a chair that was in the kitchen.
It looked like somebody had stood up on the chair looking for something in cupboards or on top of the refrigerator.
It was obvious that the individuals involved were looking for something.
They were trying to find something.
There's a lot of first things you want to do in a case like this.
One of them is grabbing security footage.
There was an SD card that was inside of there.
Maybe we could get a face, maybe a license plate, description on a car, something to help us with this case.
Because of the detour, this is right along the route that we supposed that the people had taken to get to Earl's house.
And what we found was the last recording was from 2012.
