Mansfield Fire Chief John Roach said crews at the derailment scene have confirmed the rear 13 cars of a 41-car freight train detached.

Ten of them left the track.

The six fallen cars carrying propane did not leak.

One car with food-grade grease did leak about 2,000 gallons, but was sealed and found non-hazardous.

Chief Rhodes said the cleanup is expected to ramp up once heavy equipment arrives.

Residents were told to shelter in place, but no evacuations were ordered in an area that includes the University of Connecticut.
