I don't at all look at this as being the Vegas golden Knights being a case of mediocrity.
And in fact, they're the opposite.
They've their ownership has always pushed the envelope, done whatever they could do within the rules of the, of the salary cap, of course, but you are still rewarded for being imaginative and thinking outside of the box and doing things like for a long time, what the golden state warriors have done and what currently a team like the thunder are doing in the NBA.
So I, I,
I believe there is still space for innovation and imagination in this and creativity.
I do not at all buy the notion that a salary cap is a one-way ticket to mediocrity and sameness because I look at the other sports that we follow and see a lot of individuality and a lot of really, really innovative work that's being done both on the field and in the front offices.
And messaging matters in how... And again, to your point, that graphic that when you look at the number of teams that are above the cap versus those that would be below the proposed floor, if I'm a player, and again, if I'm a mid-tier player, which definitionally describes the majority of the players...
If I'm a mid-tier player, I say, man, it really helps me out a lot if the Pirates and Brewers and smaller market teams are spending more than if the Dodgers have to knock 30 or 40 million off their payroll.
It matters more that the marginal team spends the marginal dollars because that has a greater chance of affecting me.
Right.
And I think, too, just the... If you look at... And this is a fun exercise because of who we're comparing here.
And again, I'm a big Oral Hershiser fan.
Loved watching him in the 80s and into the 90s.
Obviously, Elite has the record for most scoreless innings in a row.
And yet, just...
Take out a tape and watch him from the World Series in 88 or from an all-star game of that era, and then just watch what Christopher Sanchez is doing and what he looks like on the mound, and ask yourself,
who is probably easier or harder to hit against, especially if you're a lefty against Sanchez.
He's basically Randy Johnson from a tougher angle with a nastier slider, really.
I mean, that's what we're talking about here.
This is the next level of the next level.
