McLaren, which had half an upgrade.
And Red Bull, which also did have a big upgrade, but it's not the full-step upgrade.
they anticipate so i think ferrari potentially would have anticipated coming here taking the fight to mercedes and i think again they have this weird thing that their strengths with the starts flatter their pace so they look as though they're fighting for the win whereas once the race settles down and everyone's on the same deployment strategies they're
and um energy harvesting and whale using things the entire life comes into it and then you get a natural pace and this is where the when the Ferrari falls away um you can argue about the strategy today but he was they were Leclerc was fighting George Russell um would have finished on the podium right not for that last um crazy last lap
So I think they would have wanted more.
It was a bit worrying for Montreal in terms of both Mercedes having its upgrade coming there, McLaren bringing part two of its upgrade, that Ferrari won't have a big step there.
So I think they're throwing an awful lot into the hope of...
getting this engine upgrade through adewo but i think when that decision comes and it's quite political uh in terms of timing and who should get it there may be a bit of a big fight in the paddock over it because if they do get it i don't think mercedes be very happy and if they don't get it then ferrari are going to be very unhappy ed you said there are things all going a bit ferrari is there anything that's more going a bit ferrari than doing a massive upgrade and it not really working
Exhaust wings have become my favourite bit of tech, just because I just find it fascinating that there's this area behind the car.
And Ferrari obviously have done a brilliant job with their exhaust wing that only hasn't, maybe, have Cadillac got their rear end as well?
So only Haas can copy what Ferrari have done, but the others have seized on an opportunity and everyone's now got their version of exhaust wings, which are only worth...
hundredths of a second but this is F1 and everyone's chasing hundredths of a second but just the variation of design at the rear of the cars is fascinating they've all jumped on the same loophole in the regulations about exhaust supports you've got some beautiful designs I said to someone that when these exhaust wings are banned for next year as the F1 are trying to do hopefully teams can make them and we can have them on our desks in the offices and stuff because they look like little toy car wings don't they they're like mini monkey seats yeah
So, yeah, so the exhaust fumes are good, but I was going to talk about, actually, I thought Lewis Hamilton's comment on Saturday was quite interesting, where he talked about front wings, basically saying that McLaren Mercedes Red Bull appear to be doing something different with the front wing concept to Ferrari, and then said it's something we need to look into.
So I wonder if there's been some waking up reality that the direction that this car has taken hasn't delivered the step forward hoped for,
And that maybe there's a big look into it.
Because we had a call with Haas just before the racing resumed.
And they talked a lot about a lot of their work in the five-week gap involves some focus on the front wing.
There actually is a lot of performance coming from this front wing, how it interacts with the rest of the car.
you're very early in the development phase big gains can be made if you get your upgrade right so I wonder if Ferrari are going to need an alternative step alternative direction to make the jump if they're going to take this fight to Mercedes should mention Lewis Hamilton as well
I think Red Bull will be happy with this weekend, the upgrades that put a lot in.
