The first time I played him was in New South Wales 19s.

We played him in the 19s.

He was fullback that day and I think he'd just played, it was 2005, so he'd just debuted maybe the week or two before and we were like, oh, let's smash him, let's give it to him.

Mate, no one got near him.

He scored a double.

They beat us by about 50.

And it was like, mate, this bloke is a talent.

Who's the best you've played against?

The best I've played against would probably be Gio in terms of centres.

But played with, I mean, I was lucky to play...

As I said, went on three kangaroo tours, so got to play with a lot of those Queenslanders, Lockie, Thurston, Cam Smith, you know, those types of players.

But I used to love playing alongside Birdie, Greg Bird.

Yeah, yeah.

Like you just knew what you were going to get with Birdie.

He was going to go out there and try and fly into people, break some ribs.

But he was also really good with the footy in hand as well.

And a lot of his best footy he played in Norwich was in 5'8".

He was.

And, look, Gale probably gets bagged a lot, but he was a tough, tough bastard.

Like, to play 80 minutes in origin in the front row, like, that took a lot of willpower there.
