But if you had pinned me down, so to speak, I would have thought it would be modest, gradual progress.

I'm not saying he's an all-star right now.

I'm not saying that.

I'm not even saying that he's the most improved player in the league.

But the gap between last year to this year –

has been immense.

So no, I did not expect it.

It has surprised me.

And the Wizards are not giving any indication whether they're surprised or not.

Not that that matters, because it's been a real improvement.

And it's right now probably the best thing the franchise has going for it for the long term, other than the fact that it has stayed disciplined

with its long-term plan, which in the short term is like taking this yucky, disgusting, tasting medicine, the 3 and 18.

But as some of my executive contacts and sources tell me, to get well, and this was a sick franchise, you have to take your medicine.

And in their case, unfortunately for them, the medicine is losing in the short term.

Correct.

And I have to tell both sides to the analysis here.

The nightmare scenario is that somehow they wind up with the fifth or is it sixth pick?

Or who knows, maybe the fourth pick.
