He made everybody laugh.

Like most parents, to be successful in this country, you have the dream, the American dream, to come in and work hard.

Brian and his brothers, they were sports crazy.

For them, it was a way to get away from some of the troubles in the neighborhoods that they lived in.

Sports was for us pretty much our only way to get to college, to afford college.

That's part of the reason why we worked so hard at it.

When I first met Brian, I was just like, wow, this guy is unbelievable talent.

Brian was heavily recruited out of high school.

But he knew he wanted to stay in this region, he wanted to stay in this area, but it ultimately came down to being close to his mom.

There was only one school for Brian, and that was the University of Miami.

He swarmed and crossed down Brian Pata.

Miami Hurricanes in the early 2000s, hands down, the best team of all time.

Brian Pata was a high-performing player on a team that was highly regarded.

A lot of people think he would have had a long, substantial career in the NFL.

He'll be sitting in the locker and he'll just be laughing, like, what are you laughing at?

What you laughing at?

And he'll be listening to a message his mom just left for him.

And she'll be like, boy, I dream you today.

It used to make me laugh, too.

She babied him.
