The Kentucky Derby typically draws more than 150,000 racing fans to Churchill Downs, making it one of the largest single-day sporting events in the world.
Governor Andy Beshear said officials have implemented a multi-layered security plan at the racetrack.

48-year-old Marvin Knuckles was part of a crew of inmates who were clearing ice and snow at the Eastern Kentucky Correctional Complex when he fell down a 40-foot embankment and died.
Kentucky State Police are investigating the death,
But questions have been raised as to why this group was out in sub-freezing temperatures at night when Governor Andy Beshear had given a statewide order to stay inside.
Beshear has promised a full and transparent investigation.
Officials at the medium security prison say Knuckles volunteered for the ice removal assignment.

Amy Brown tried to break her car free of an encasement of ice Tuesday to no avail.
With nothing but time on her hands, she took another crack at it Wednesday.
It took some de-icer and some heavy scraping.
After about 10 minutes, she was in the driver's seat.
With kitty litter under the tires... I did it!
So now that she can get out, what are her big plans?
I'm going to pull the car right back into the driveway, go back inside and have a bowl of chili.
