Where did your parents take the two of you many weekends when you were growing up?

Your mum grew up in Western Australia.

Tell me about her dad and his love of adventure.

He was free diving?

I mean, were your parents concerned or did it ever feel risky to you?

Your grandma Audrey, your mum's mum, had left the family home when your mum was a child.

What was her story?

This was your mum and her siblings?

As you say, it was a very common sort of advised thing that doctors would advise families to put a member who had significant mental illness into an asylum.

How did your granddad feel about it all, you know, especially as he got older?

He never went and saw her again.

Does that mean your mum didn't see her as she was growing up?

After your grandma was put in the asylum and your mum and her siblings were living just with their dad, your mum got seriously ill herself.
