I remember us like gathering our thoughts around like one of those skillet cookies and just kind of hanging out until it was time to go home, which was super late at night, like one or two in the morning. And so my friend had to drive kind of out of the way to drop me off. Because as I mentioned before, I live in a very rural area. You have to go about 15 miles outside of Carthage, Texas.

And you go into a community called Deadwood. The further you get outside of Carthage, the dimmer it becomes. The darker it becomes. The closer the trees are to the road. At any moment, you have to be watching for movement as you drive because there's always the threat that a deer or a pack of wild boar or a coyote or something could go out in front of you and ruin your car and your day.

And to get to my house, you have to cross the Sabine River and go through an area called the river bottom. So that's basically the area where the river, where the flood water goes when the river floods. So we cross this bridge, we're in the river bottom area and there's no illumination. It's completely dark on each side except for the glow of our high beams.

And we are getting closer to the place where you take the left turn to get to my family's house. And then Ramsey says something strange. She says, did you see that big naked guy step out of the woods? And I say, no, what are you talking about? And I'm very concerned because this is very close to where my family's land ends. It's also, there's nothing. There's absolutely nothing. There's no houses.

It's just forest. So if somebody's out there, he's probably in a lot of trouble or doing something he shouldn't be doing. And for some reason... I said, turn around. So we turn around, pull a U-turn, and we go back the way we came. And at this point, I kind of thought, you know, it's really late at night. I know there is one tree that is closer to the road than the rest. It's this pine tree.

It's dead. It's like... 12 feet tall or so and I was like it's a it's an odd color it's a it's like an orangey color because it's dead so maybe she just saw it in her high beams and thought that's a person because it's late so we're coming up on where the tree is and I'm ready to say like see it's just this tree that's all it was But then on the other side of the tree, we see this thing and it's,

About eight feet tall, we determined later. Not quite as tall as the tree, but still way taller than us, way taller than a person. And it was covered in, like, this reddish-brown hair, just fur all over its body. And it had, like, super, super broad shoulders. Like, I want to say, like, three feet. Like... three feet wide.
