Coming up, we are going to look back at probably the most iconic post-match interview in Premier League history.
Hello and welcome back to The Football Show.
Coming up, we'll be hearing from the Leeds MD, Angus Kinnear.
We'll also be hearing...
from Roy Hodgson and Matt Letizia will be joining us.
But today also marks the anniversary of one of the most interesting post-match interviews in Premier League history.
In 1996, it was a game between Leeds United and Newcastle United.
Keith Gillespie's goal...
meant that Newcastle beat Leeds by one goal to nil and they moved to within three points of Manchester United with one game in hand and two to play.
However, Alex Ferguson had been playing mind games and suggested that maybe Newcastle might find it a bit easier against Nottingham Forest than Manchester United had done.
And this was the response from Kevin Keegan.
And that was, of course, Kevin Keegan speaking after Newcastle United's 1-0 win.
At that point, though, the title was in their hands.
And Gary, that kind of suggestion that maybe Leeds wouldn't try as hard against Newcastle as they would against Manchester United, that maybe Nottingham Forest under Stuart Pearce wouldn't try as hard against Newcastle as they did against Manchester United, it got the reaction that I imagine he was hoping it would.
sort of give you something you know kevin keegan was one of those was one of those guys it wasn't just about that that twist and turn at the end of the season in january there'd been a 12 point deficit from from newcastle at the top of the league to manchester united at that stage do you still think you you can catch them
Graham what were the sort of mind games that were played under the managers that you played for because I know they were very forthright in the dressing room did they try and play that out in the public arena by talking to the newspapers for example?
Coming up next, we'll be hearing from a man actually who's played and managed under all different eras in football.
It's Roy Hodgson up next.
Good morning and welcome back to the Football Show.
Graeme Souness and Gary Neville are our guests this morning.
