And even the packaging does this, like you've seen a large bag of crisps that is half full of air, right?
It's influencing our choices maybe more subconsciously.
I mean, there are usually there are a range of products, you know, in the same family of different processing levels.
And so by and large, buying something that's less processed is usually going to be nutritionally better.
And there are several options of.
minimally processed and whole foods that are still fairly affordable and accessible and healthier overall.
You look at frozen veggies, for example, that's still a really good solution for families who are finding the cost of fruit and veg to be ridiculously high right now, as well as canned products.
Kind of moving back towards our regular processed foods, more traditionally processed foods would probably really help us to make those choices.
Another interesting thing about how surrounded by this we are, though, is that like just looking at their marketing.
There's a study that did research with kids in Wellington who had wearable cameras and they followed them around throughout their day.
These kids are exposed to about a brand per minute.
throughout their day.
And these kids saw an average of 68 junk food ads every day.
And that was twice the amount of marketing messages they saw for healthier foods.
So, you know, we're constantly being nudged in the direction of
of buying more unhealthy ultra processed foods.
And to be honest, ultra processed foods are not really a staple in most of our diets.
A lot of these foods we can live without.
So it's making choices to, you know, to gradually shift towards a less processed diet that's going to need to happen over time.
