I'm a documentary filmmaker.
I've spent the last 10 years working with my colleagues, co-directors Sarah Botstein and David Schmidt on a six-part, 12-hour series called The American Revolution.
One of the most remarkable aspects of the Revolutionary War is that you had such different places come together as one nation.
And so it really is actually kind of remarkable the way that that nation ends up coherent, not around culture, not around religion, not around ancient history.
It was coming together around a set of purposes and ideals for one common cause.
