It wasn't illegal.
It wasn't legal because we were still trespassing, but the footage was being used
in court and it was never challenged until sometime around 91, 92, there was a Supreme Court change of the law where film obtained whilst trespassing is not admissible.
But back in the 80s, we could do whatever we liked.
So we would go in, sneak in, hide in the grape vineyard with the scrim net, you know, with a can of Mortine in case the dogs came.
And we would hide and we would film these people and obtain footage of them doing what they shouldn't be doing.
And despite all of your excellent, you know, camouflage skills, were you ever caught?
Oh, yeah.
What happened then?
I was caught a number of times by people on the property.
They'd come across over to my area where I was hiding or whatever and I would just step out and I would just apologise and say, look, sorry, we're in the middle of an army exercise because I would wear full army greens.
My mates thought I was crazy.
They thought, you can't walk around in army gear.
And I said, if I get caught, I'm just going to tell them I'm in the army.
Because I've got army boots, an army pack.
I've got greens.
I look like I'm a soldier.
What's a soldier doing on someone's property, right?
So I used to tell them, we're doing an army exercise and I've taken a shortcut through your property and I'm really sorry.
I shouldn't be here.
