It's not somewhere that has any kind of surveillance video, obviously, so if someone disappears from around there, the likelihood of it being seen are pretty slim.
Therefore, it was super important that they got as many people out there as possible, as many bodies, as much help as they can when they're physically combing the area.
They utilized helicopters and canines, and they also leaned heavily on the community, which thankfully sounds like a wonderful community.
It's a very tight-knit group of people, very small.
These people are definitely willing to help because Grubbs, the city that she lived in, had a population of like 500 people.
So when one person disappeared, obviously this was...
Just a wild moment for everyone.
I mean, no one saw something like this coming and everyone sort of felt the impact.
In fact, the sheriff at the time, David Lucas, was personally connected to the case because he knew Sydney and her family.
Not only had his kids grown up going to the same school as her, but his daughter dated one of her brothers.
And he says that as soon as he got the call,
That Sydney was missing, he just knew he was going to do whatever it takes to try and find her.
And really the whole community sort of brought that energy.
During the first day, over 150 people came out to help search for her.
And if you put that...
You know, into the lens of there only being 500 people there, 150.
I mean, that's a lot.
That's more than what, 20%?
That's like 25%, 30%?
