what's going to happen with mccutchen how does the dh role turn out this season is he coming back that's a big if and i do know that there was a meeting you know scheduled last thursday between mccutchen and nutting i don't know how it went but obviously mccutchen on social media has kind of been crying out a bit here about the way he's been treated by the pirates and in baseball in general which tells you that there's probably not a great market for him

If you look at war equaling $8 million, which is kind of like an industry standard, that McCutcheon with a 0.1 war was far below value for the $5 million he was paid.

I have a feeling the Pirates are extending all of their offers and looking at all of their options before they commit to Andrew McCutcheon.

I don't believe they're going to commit to him

as a full-time DH.

I think it's going to be a guy who might work in, you know, a couple of days as a DH and a couple of days as a pinch hitter, right-handed pitch hitter off the bench.

And I think that's the role that he was better suited for last season.

That's how I felt going into last year is that he shouldn't have been their everyday DH.

I think through June, he was one of the best hitters on the team in terms of batting average, but he was more likely to work.

I guess he was more willing to draw walks than swing for the fences.

And they just didn't get enough production out of that spot.

The Pirates have made it clear that they're interested in, to some degree, of rotating through the DH spot.

And so I think you could see

whoever's playing first base, both left-handed bats, Horwitz or O'Hearn, the other one could be the DH.
