Excuse My Grandma's Palm Beach Season Finale and Recession Dating
Welcome back to another episode of Excuse My Grandma. It's Kim and my co-host. And my gal. Grandma, it is our final week of the Palm Beach season. It's our Palm Beach finale episode. Boo hoo. What will you miss about being together?
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Palm Beach Season Finale and Recession Dating
There's also La Teta door that I've heard of.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Palm Beach Season Finale and Recession Dating
Probably the most processed one, because I feel like you like when it's like Nathan.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Palm Beach Season Finale and Recession Dating
I'll be excited to go back to New York to record in our studio.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Palm Beach Season Finale and Recession Dating
Yeah, we'll see.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Palm Beach Season Finale and Recession Dating
Okay, let's move on to the drama club. This week, we're gonna talk about Coachella. I've wanted to first ask about what music festivals were like back in the day. I know you never went to like Woodstock or anything like that.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Palm Beach Season Finale and Recession Dating
Yeah. I'll definitely miss the easy access to your closet because even in New York or the Hamptons, I'm not like in your apartment where I can just walk in, have double the options.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Palm Beach Season Finale and Recession Dating
Cause that was like seventies flower power.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Palm Beach Season Finale and Recession Dating
It's also interesting that Woodstock has the context of rebellion. Coachella is not about that at all. It's purely just a music festival.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Palm Beach Season Finale and Recession Dating
You know what's interesting? They should really. So now it's basically... in the last few years become really relevant again, because all the influencers are going and all the brands like bring them out and have them come to like their tent. And it's like really an in-person community moment for these brands and their influencers.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Palm Beach Season Finale and Recession Dating
But there was like a stat that I found that 60% of the general admission ticket buyers at Coachella actually use the festival's payment plan because it's so expensive to go. So they're like paying in increments just to like go to this festival.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Palm Beach Season Finale and Recession Dating
So if you're successful, you have to give your- I think a percentage.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Palm Beach Season Finale and Recession Dating
Also, like there's different levels of tickets and a lot of them sell out. But I was thinking, I was like, if I ever were to go, I think I'd really only want to go like, I don't love being in the crowds and all of that. And there's like artist pass and VIP pass. Guess how much those are? I have, Kimberly, I have. Upwards of $12,000 a ticket. Well, I think that's obscene.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Palm Beach Season Finale and Recession Dating
Well, there were so many, like, as we were packing up, like, vintage items, you didn't even really, not that you didn't know you had it, but you really don't wear a lot of.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Palm Beach Season Finale and Recession Dating
You can't even buy a ticket to that.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Palm Beach Season Finale and Recession Dating
I think young people just want to dance and have fun and go to these concerts.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Palm Beach Season Finale and Recession Dating
Probably. But also, I don't even know how fun it is because like, Alex Earl, obviously I was like following her the whole, like she was posting so much Coachella content and she was at Lady Gaga and she's like scanned the crowd. She's like, why am I the only one dancing? Everyone was just standing there like videotaping her and watching. Well, they probably wanted to listen to her also.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Palm Beach Season Finale and Recession Dating
I know, but how do you not like dance? I don't know.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Palm Beach Season Finale and Recession Dating
so it's also like how fun really is it also i feel like everyone went that first weekend and there's enough like this weekend or that we're recording it so it'll be a few days ago but um there is weekend too like i wonder who go i bet that's cheap oh i think i think people go the whole time yeah it's probably just a difference in ticket price right um do you think there's like an age cut off of when it's acceptable to go to coachella
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Palm Beach Season Finale and Recession Dating
Yeah. I don't know if that's his vibe. I don't think that's going to happen. But I think I would go. I just think it does seem overwhelming. Um, I don't know, but like, it was funny also. Cause Alex Earl, she went to speak at Harvard, um, the next day. So she went from this like party weekend and then got on a plane and went straight to speak at Harvard. Okay. For the grandma report.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Palm Beach Season Finale and Recession Dating
Our article this week is from time.com and is talking about the silver lining of dating in a recession.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Palm Beach Season Finale and Recession Dating
Okay. They're threatening one. Right. So with economic downturns, like the potential... recession. I think dating habits are being shaped differently with these rising costs. The article said that dates average $168. So a lot of people are moving away from expensive outings and toward budget friendly activities.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Palm Beach Season Finale and Recession Dating
um and like in the 2008 recession people like historical patterns show there was increased creativity in dating people were cooking at home they were going to free events um so it actually what they're saying is the silver lining is is that it could like create more meaningful experiences um over just lavish spending i don't know i i think first of all you know
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Palm Beach Season Finale and Recession Dating
But even like some of your... vintage jewelry or bags or sweaters like that are 30 years old. A lot of people now they want all this vintage stuff. And they're like there's pop ups around the city with vintage items or everybody's so into thrifting now. But I just have to go into your closet, which is really great.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Palm Beach Season Finale and Recession Dating
I don't know if I've done that yet, but I will.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Palm Beach Season Finale and Recession Dating
I also think with the dating lens, people want to go to a trendy restaurant and things like that.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Palm Beach Season Finale and Recession Dating
Or maybe you go out less often, but you're going to those trendy restaurants. Obviously, it depends on your situation. But I wonder if people, especially who aren't in relationships and who are dating for the first time, you know, first dates and stuff. If somebody chose a date that was like a free event, I feel like it would seem low effort.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Palm Beach Season Finale and Recession Dating
I think a sit down is probably necessary. You can't just walk in to grab a slice. You have to sit down at a table.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Palm Beach Season Finale and Recession Dating
Okay, let's move on to the rewind. What are we watching on TV? I just finished Love is Blind. I saw that, that was on Netflix. Yeah, it's on Netflix. It's when they like date through a wall and the whole question is like, can you make an emotional connection without ever seeing somebody?
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Palm Beach Season Finale and Recession Dating
And then they have like four weeks if they decide to propose in the pods to then date in the real world and then they do a wedding. Did anything actually come out of that? One couple went through with the wedding, like said yes at the altar. The other three at the altar said no. Well, that's very much like The Bachelorette and The Bachelor. Similar dating show, but it's a little different.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Palm Beach Season Finale and Recession Dating
Right, right. and i'm always like makes good tv yeah it does make good tv um it gets addicting so that was fun um then there's these two shows that i started but i don't know if i want to finish them dying for sex with michelle williams okay and um your friends and neighbors with john ham oh i love him yeah that one's actually good i'm gonna finish that one basically the concept is like he um
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Palm Beach Season Finale and Recession Dating
gets fired and he lives in like a really fancy suburb and he decides to like steal from his neighbors.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Palm Beach Season Finale and Recession Dating
You see space. But there was so much controversy around that.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Palm Beach Season Finale and Recession Dating
Why wasn't it an all-women flight?
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Palm Beach Season Finale and Recession Dating
It was like just A-list celebrities. Yeah. Like Gal King and Katy Perry.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Palm Beach Season Finale and Recession Dating
No, I don't think any of them paid for it. I don't know. People were like... Who cared? Not who cares, but I think they were like, why are these wealthy celebs? Yeah, I agree. But... I didn't like how some of the brands were really mean. Like Wendy's was like, can we just leave Katy Perry in space?
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Palm Beach Season Finale and Recession Dating
I mean, I wonder if, like, I'm sure a lot of other big companies are going to take... Well, not too many companies have spaceships, except for Elon Musk. No, but whatever their big launches are, maybe they'll think differently.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Palm Beach Season Finale and Recession Dating
Emily Ratajkowski was like, it's disgusting. These celebrities would support. The celebrities. would support Bezos.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Palm Beach Season Finale and Recession Dating
I guess. That's funny. OK, let's do Grant McGill's voicemail. We have an email someone wrote in and then a voice message. So let's do the email first. Also remember guys, you can always email us at team at excusemygrandma.com or send us a voice memo on our hotline. We have it linked on our Instagram all the time. Okay. Or DM us.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Palm Beach Season Finale and Recession Dating
The email says, Hey Kim, I hope you and your family had a nice Passover. I want to know grandma's thoughts on this one. I've been dating the same guy about two months, 11 dates. Yes, keep notes. We don't talk and text that much between dates, but we usually have our next date on the calendar. A lot of my friends who have no kids think he's not that interested.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Palm Beach Season Finale and Recession Dating
If he was, he would be texting and calling more often. He's 51, I'm 46, and we aren't in a rush to get married or move in together. I wish he showed more interest, but my mother, who's 74, almost as opinionated as grandma, thinks I'm being a baby and I should be happy. We can spend time together when we can.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Palm Beach Season Finale and Recession Dating
And according to my mom, who looked through my dating apps, he's the best match for me by far. Thoughts?
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Palm Beach Season Finale and Recession Dating
Wait, but I've been on like 11 dates and you were like, that's not that much. Like you're just getting to know someone.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Palm Beach Season Finale and Recession Dating
But are 51-year-olds texters?
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Palm Beach Season Finale and Recession Dating
i put them in bags yeah no one really talks about the treatment of those items you should no i saw something recently with the prices going up people are going to have to learn how to treat their bags and maintain them like even you're always so annoyed when you come to my apartment because i don't like stuff my bag and you should or keep them in dust bags because i like to see everything displayed yeah but you know what's in there and or leave the handle out
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Palm Beach Season Finale and Recession Dating
Also, can't she text him and be like, how's your day going?
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Palm Beach Season Finale and Recession Dating
After 11 dates, you can text someone, how's your day going?
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Palm Beach Season Finale and Recession Dating
But she could. Or how was your day? Whatever. At the end of the day, like, if you go on 11 dates with someone. If she feels like it. Right. If she feels like it, there's nothing wrong with it. I think the bottom line is, like, if other people are telling you that it's weird, but you don't think it's weird, who cares? Right.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Palm Beach Season Finale and Recession Dating
But if you want to be talking to him more than you are, like, try initiating it.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Palm Beach Season Finale and Recession Dating
Wait, do you mean the one we just had on?
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Palm Beach Season Finale and Recession Dating
Now we're going to do Grandma Gail's hotline. Here's the voicemail someone sent in.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Palm Beach Season Finale and Recession Dating
Okay, so they want to know why you aren't a proponent of therapy because they listened to all of your advice.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Palm Beach Season Finale and Recession Dating
i really do believe that the bags protect them and they're so costly and you know what people have to take care of their good things for sure um another thing that i guess i'll miss about being here even though we have lunch and dinner with our family all the time in new york and the hamptons too i have more friends in new york than in florida so like most nights I'm seeing friends.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Palm Beach Season Finale and Recession Dating
So, you know, I completely disagree on every single level for so many reasons. One, sometimes you want to talk to someone who doesn't have their own agenda or bias. So someone who really is like helping you figure out your best interest, who isn't your mom, who you might have the problem with, a friend who might be selfish for some other reason, whatever it is.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Palm Beach Season Finale and Recession Dating
Second thing is, it's not always, I have a problem, can I fix it? Sometimes it's, this is something I want to do. This is a conversation I want to have. What's the best way to go about this in a way that, I don't know, won't make the other person aggressive, won't, will get my point across. Like there's so many things I can't even get into. Well, this is what your generation does.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Palm Beach Season Finale and Recession Dating
And we're like arguably healthier, right?
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Palm Beach Season Finale and Recession Dating
Yeah. Okay. Let's play. Should we bring it back? Palm Beach edition. So these are things we like used to do in Florida. I was trying to think of more. I'm wondering if we should do it still. The Breakers brunch in the Rotunda room.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Palm Beach Season Finale and Recession Dating
Right. They probably upcharge.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Palm Beach Season Finale and Recession Dating
What about like Lion Country Safari and those kind of things?
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Palm Beach Season Finale and Recession Dating
We also used to go to like Disney and Universal all the time in Orlando. But we've been a million times. I mean, I guess I just went to Disney in LA, but like I'd bring that back.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Palm Beach Season Finale and Recession Dating
What about, I know the Chesterfield Hotel.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Palm Beach Season Finale and Recession Dating
Right. Should we bring that back once it, it's reopening, right?
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Palm Beach Season Finale and Recession Dating
What was the old one?
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Palm Beach Season Finale and Recession Dating
Okay. What about like the society section of the paper?
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Palm Beach Season Finale and Recession Dating
Okay, let's do a quick round of Ask Grandma Anything. Everyone wrote these in on Instagram. So if you want your question answered, remember to always respond to those Instagram stories. Okay. First one. Have you ever been ghosted? I guess this is for me. How did you handle it? For sure. It wasn't all the time. But there were times where I was like, why after date?
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Palm Beach Season Finale and Recession Dating
So it's nice here to, if I don't have a plan, I'll just come along with you guys or with mom and dad. But also I'm excited to go back and like have a little bit of a social life.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Palm Beach Season Finale and Recession Dating
I guess he didn't want to go out again because he never followed up. Or...
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Palm Beach Season Finale and Recession Dating
like but that always happens you just have a term for it now in your in your society people didn't respond and call for an extra date it was just not calling back right i think the proper use of ghosted is like if i then said to someone hi how are you and they just didn't even answer answer it's rude i don't know if that's happened um because i think i stopped myself before even getting to that point but how i handled it i probably like told all my friends told you and was like what should i do they don't like me and then
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Palm Beach Season Finale and Recession Dating
And then you had to move on. Yeah. Grandma's favorite travel destinations?
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Palm Beach Season Finale and Recession Dating
Yeah, me too. How old were you when your mom passed and how did that change your life?
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Palm Beach Season Finale and Recession Dating
Yeah. And I think spending time with your own kids and grandkids.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Palm Beach Season Finale and Recession Dating
I mean, do you think that I could live here full time?
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Palm Beach Season Finale and Recession Dating
Wait, you eat sandwiches all the time?
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Palm Beach Season Finale and Recession Dating
Okay, last one. How do you focus time and energy towards dating as a 30-year-old woman? Yeah. if it's a priority to you and it's something you really want to be doing and you wanna be in a relationship, then I think maybe making a promise to yourself, like at least every other week or once a week to go on one date,
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Palm Beach Season Finale and Recession Dating
I was trying to think of what was different this year than the past. And I guess like it was the first year I wasn't single during my Palm beach time. So I guess like my priorities were less like, okay, how can I fit dates in and more like we have, we can get work done. I can do family stuff, which felt nice. Plus though, juggling having to go back and forth more.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Palm Beach Season Finale and Recession Dating
between three locations and like more travel.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Palm Beach Season Finale and Recession Dating
Yeah, well, you would think like Zach, my boyfriend, he uses one airline so that he gets upgraded on that airline all the time. But I never use the same airline.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Palm Beach Season Finale and Recession Dating
this year yeah but i had bad experiences oh all right don't let's not talk about that because you might want to use that airline again okay anyway um it was a great season thank you all for listening and following yeah but come back we're gonna be on and we'll just be coming from new york it'll be coming from new york city be coming from the hamptons and obviously follow us on social media at excuse my grandma and mine is kim merstein and we'll see you soon bye
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Palm Beach Season Finale and Recession Dating
Your grandparents never came to Florida, did they?
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Palm Beach Season Finale and Recession Dating
So then when they were here, No, but those are your parents.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Palm Beach Season Finale and Recession Dating
There was a spa down here and they lived here six months a year. Oh, wow. Okay. So then when you were here, did you also do dinners with them all the time? Absolutely.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Palm Beach Season Finale and Recession Dating
Yeah. It's nice to pass down that value.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Palm Beach Season Finale and Recession Dating
I mean, they were... But your relationship with your grandparents, how was that different than... with poppies?
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Palm Beach Season Finale and Recession Dating
I guess because he never had a sister. There was never a girl.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Palm Beach Season Finale and Recession Dating
So as I'm like finding my own personal aesthetic, I've decided that I want to lean really heavily into those like vintage inspired items for home and clothing and whatever. So it's kind of a fun project to find that all again because it's sort of hard to find.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Palm Beach Season Finale and Recession Dating
The thing is, like, I can't really have a dinner party in my apartment because I have one chair.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Palm Beach Season Finale and Recession Dating
Oh, yeah. And you've rearranged your apartment for work and makeup. Well, I have a desk chair and then I have like my, what's it called? My dressing table.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Palm Beach Season Finale and Recession Dating
No, but what is that called? A vanity. Vanity. And with a little stool. so like that's not conducive to a dinner party but i could use mom and dad's house in the summer in the country yeah and you've done that you've had a lot of parties i had like one party right and it was just but i want to do it again and i've say i've made all these pinterest boards you know pinterest it's like i
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Palm Beach Season Finale and Recession Dating
I'll show you, but like I save just like photos of inspiration. It's different than Instagram because you can create like your own boards, like mood boards almost. And I've saved all these hosting things. We'll see if I actually do any of it.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Palm Beach Season Finale and Recession Dating
You do have a couple of girlfriends. I have the vision. Right. But even with the party that I did in the Hamptons last summer, I had two girls staying with me and they did like the dirty work. Well, so that's the whole problem. And same with the fall party.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Palm Beach Season Finale and Recession Dating
Well, that's very... But I like...
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Palm Beach Season Finale and Recession Dating
I feel it changes your mood a lot when you're in sun versus in cold, for sure. But I also feel like the humidity is not great for hair. So I've been in a slick back every single day of being in Florida. But older people don't do slick back buns.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Palm Beach Season Finale and Recession Dating
I like the act of hosting during the event. So, you know, we'll figure out what happens. Do you remember me ever when I was younger begging to stay in Florida longer since I would really only come for like vacation? Was I like, I don't want to leave or not? No, I don't think so. I don't think I did that with anything in life. Like with camp, I always wanted to leave.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Palm Beach Season Finale and Recession Dating
Well you hated camp, we know that. With like college, I was like ready to go by the end of the year. Like I was never like, I need to stay longer.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Palm Beach Season Finale and Recession Dating
The only thing I would say.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Palm Beach Season Finale and Recession Dating
Yeah, that's fair. The only thing I would say is not wanting to leave the weather. Oh, that's later on.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Palm Beach Season Finale and Recession Dating
But I feel like when I was only here for like, let's say Christmas vacation, I would want to spend every single day at the beach versus now I'm like, I'm here enough time that it's like, it's okay to do something other than sit out.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Palm Beach Season Finale and Recession Dating
They're very aggressive when they come over to- I can't even think of the turkey vultures mating.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Palm Beach Season Finale and Recession Dating
The puppy gets scared though.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Palm Beach Season Finale and Recession Dating
I don't know. And then I don't know how to get rid of those. I don't think you can.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Palm Beach Season Finale and Recession Dating
Speaking of full-time Florida residents, I was scrolling on social earlier and Bethany Frankel said she is moving to Florida full-time.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Palm Beach Season Finale and Recession Dating
Yeah, but she said she decided that she's going to be there full-time both for- Well, her daughter's going to college.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Palm Beach Season Finale and Recession Dating
She said like for personal and professional reasons, like it makes more sense to be in Florida, which is interesting.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Palm Beach Season Finale and Recession Dating
But she's like really relevant in the... Well, she can be really relevant here. I guess.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Palm Beach Season Finale and Recession Dating
It's a big city.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Palm Beach Season Finale and Recession Dating
But your hair's not frizzy.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Palm Beach Season Finale and Recession Dating
Right, and then... I mean, Alex Earl is literally from Miami and started her whole career there. And she's like arguably the biggest TikToker, but she also is constantly in L.A. and New York. So I guess you still have to travel, but it's interesting that that's her home base. And she said she's keeping the city in the Hamptons.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Palm Beach Season Finale and Recession Dating
Anything else you're excited to do when we get back to New York? I mean, we have your birthday, Poppy's birthday, and Mom's birthday that week.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Palm Beach Season Finale and Recession Dating
For your birthday, we didn't really make a plan though.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Palm Beach Season Finale and Recession Dating
What about if you could have like an experience or a trip or something?
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Palm Beach Season Finale and Recession Dating
For birthday celebrations, I feel like a question we get a lot for like more mature places to have birthday dinners.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Palm Beach Season Finale and Recession Dating
By the way, I haven't been to that restaurant, but do you know what that means in French?
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Palm Beach Season Finale and Recession Dating
I asked chat GBT because someone had mentioned it.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Palm Beach Season Finale and Recession Dating
The golden calf, but I think it actually means like worshiping money, like the biblical.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma on Cozy Chic and Career Comebacks
Welcome back to another episode of Excuse My Grandma. It's Kim and my co-host, Grandma Gail. So grandma, this morning we filmed so many outfit videos for social media. You've been, that's the best part about when I'm here in Florida because you get to help me pick out my outfits. I get to go into your closet and steal some stuff, which is always fun.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma on Cozy Chic and Career Comebacks
Totally. And I think, I mean, we talk about this all the time, but like you found hopefully a creative outlet in this at 80. So it's really.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma on Cozy Chic and Career Comebacks
Yeah, what do your kids think of Brave Pudding?
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma on Cozy Chic and Career Comebacks
Like you're not, they're not going to be the spokesperson there. You're not putting them in the marketing campaign. Well, I think I, they should out of your shot.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma on Cozy Chic and Career Comebacks
no the sample came very important it's not because every day is in christmas but and also saying like the success isn't necessarily like dollars and it's a lot of other well that becomes part of it because that that is a gratification that you know that you're economically
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma on Cozy Chic and Career Comebacks
Yeah, I guess maybe you're used to being even more uncomfortable.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma on Cozy Chic and Career Comebacks
Yeah, I definitely dress a little bit more casual than you generally. You like the sweatshirts. Yeah, I wear a lot of sweatshirts and leggings and whatever. But I was doing a little research about the history of fashion and comfort. And like the major factor in the like comfort is king trend was due to the rise of synthetic fibers, which changed how people fit in their clothes.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma on Cozy Chic and Career Comebacks
Makes sense. And you need people who believe in you and believe in the product. You're in a relationship? I am, yes. What does he think of
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma on Cozy Chic and Career Comebacks
So you're kind of used to seeing a business run by a couple also, because it's really different. I mean, it happens, but, and we work together as family members, but like there's challenges that come from mixing business and pleasure.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma on Cozy Chic and Career Comebacks
Like my boyfriend and I are separately therapy people. Like we always have been in therapy. So like that's better than nothing. Yes. I could see how it would be useful to do together. But I think also it is very like, I probably haven't, thank God, been like, burned enough or feel like I need to. Not that you have to be. It's different.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma on Cozy Chic and Career Comebacks
But it's not always like you're in a problem. Yeah. It's not that you have problems.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma on Cozy Chic and Career Comebacks
But yeah, I feel like it could be so fun and your business could even be better when you are in it with a romantic partner or family member if you are aligned in that way. And luckily in your case, you were. So that's great. Okay, let's talk about our grandma report. This week, our article, it's in Business of Fashion and it's just talking about H&M using AI models.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma on Cozy Chic and Career Comebacks
So since we have Sarah here, the expert.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma on Cozy Chic and Career Comebacks
Well, we can give our two cents on it, but basically- Explain to the audience what they're doing because it's a little weird. Yeah. Well, I think H&M hired like 30 models or something like that and made duplicates of them in AI that they can use in their marketing materials. And the models are also able to take that with other brands if they choose.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma on Cozy Chic and Career Comebacks
Right. So in the 19th century.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma on Cozy Chic and Career Comebacks
But yeah, it begs the question, is it taking away jobs for future models, for stylists, for hair and makeup people, for photographers?
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma on Cozy Chic and Career Comebacks
Right. Neither was I. S-shaped silhouettes with corsets and bustles were stylish, but obviously probably not comfortable. Now you have to see that on television. Yeah. And then in the early 20th century, more comfortable styles emerged, which really was influenced by sportswear and women's changing roles.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma on Cozy Chic and Career Comebacks
Meaning that it doesn't look lifelike yet? Like, what do you mean it's not almost there?
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma on Cozy Chic and Career Comebacks
They'll fix it. I think it's all amazing. I mean, I'm obsessed with, like, talk GPT and stuff. I'm also interested in AI. My only thing is when it comes to, like, those creative industries. Like, I know in film and TV, it's a huge discussion now, too, of, like,
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma on Cozy Chic and Career Comebacks
Yeah. Speaking of old fashioned trends, let's play a game of should we bring it back? We play it on every episode with like 1950s fashion trends. And then we'll decide whether we want to bring it back to today or leave it in the past. Okay, a corset waist.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma on Cozy Chic and Career Comebacks
I love the look, but it is uncomfortable. Exactly.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma on Cozy Chic and Career Comebacks
How do you just, I guess, define ease and comfort in fashion? Or is it a feeling?
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma on Cozy Chic and Career Comebacks
Right. And then in the 20s, you know, it was like flapper fashion, which was the shorter skirts and the looser silhouettes. So that was pretty comfortable, probably.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma on Cozy Chic and Career Comebacks
Yeah, that means like the higher arm.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma on Cozy Chic and Career Comebacks
And they were in velvet dresses.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma on Cozy Chic and Career Comebacks
Because it happened to be a hot day in the winter.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma on Cozy Chic and Career Comebacks
Yeah. Okay. Two-piece sets. I feel like it was a thing to wear. No, like wasn't it a thing to wear like the skirt with the matching like top? Oh, yeah. Well, they still do that now. I feel like that's back. I like it.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma on Cozy Chic and Career Comebacks
I love a matching set because I don't have to think about styling.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma on Cozy Chic and Career Comebacks
yeah well it's now it's funny because it's like we get a costume from a store and we dressed 1920s but it really was how people dressed and um then there's world war one and two which was like practical functional correct clothing women were joining the workforce so it was And then we have the 50s, and that was really like Christian Dior's new look, right?
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma on Cozy Chic and Career Comebacks
It's not as chic. Maybe a peplum blazer.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma on Cozy Chic and Career Comebacks
Okay, let's just finish up with Ask Grandma Anything, but Sarah, we'll stay to get some of your opinions. Our listeners wrote in these questions on Instagram. First one is favorite restaurant in Florida.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma on Cozy Chic and Career Comebacks
I think, I mean, my favorites always change. I like Brick Tops and Palm Beach Grill. Yeah.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma on Cozy Chic and Career Comebacks
Can't get in anymore, but it's good. Yeah.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma on Cozy Chic and Career Comebacks
It's like the setting and the vibe. Yes. How to build close friendships?
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma on Cozy Chic and Career Comebacks
I do feel like I have like adult friends that I made. Obviously the people I know from school, like those are longer term relationships. But then when you are living in the city or wherever you are and you like want to make some new friends, I do feel like it goes a long way to constant, not constantly because you don't want to be annoying as a new friend, but like
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma on Cozy Chic and Career Comebacks
once every few weeks at least like try to get a dinner on the books to kind of form that new relationship because it does take time to like start something new and you're it's kind of like you're and everybody's busy friends and well you're busy and so people have to make time in advance um and also like if you really want to be friends with this new person remembering this is obvious but like remember things that they said like show interest in and what they're doing what they're doing
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma on Cozy Chic and Career Comebacks
are there fewer high quality men now than there were when you were young? I don't,
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma on Cozy Chic and Career Comebacks
But there is that trope that everyone says that I don't like to perpetuate of like, all the good guys are gone.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma on Cozy Chic and Career Comebacks
Yeah, I love that. Actually, I'm going to use that response if I'm asked that because it is so true. The culture now has shifted in a lot of ways for the better. Obviously, we lose some of the, I don't know, nice manners, tradition, those kind of things. I'm a nostalgic person. I like those things of the past.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma on Cozy Chic and Career Comebacks
Yeah, I think the redefining is a huge part because, like, one, to say that it works the way that you had it, like, I don't think it worked for a lot of people. No, it didn't.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma on Cozy Chic and Career Comebacks
Right, and I think a lot of people were unhappy even if they didn't get divorced. So to say it worked, like, I'm happy it worked for you, obviously, but I think that, I don't know, obviously things are shifting and changing because they weren't really working.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma on Cozy Chic and Career Comebacks
Like everyday wear. Yeah. Mm-hmm. The 60s and the 70s were like bohemian hippie fashion.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma on Cozy Chic and Career Comebacks
I don't think that's true at all. I think you should be comfortable in yourself that no one can emasculate you, no one can decomunize you.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma on Cozy Chic and Career Comebacks
Well, then they shouldn't be with you. Somebody who, if they have such a fragile ego, that someone being successful around them doesn't make them feel more motivated and then it brings them down. One, they have their own demons, but fine, they can find someone that they're not going to.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma on Cozy Chic and Career Comebacks
But loose and flowing, right? Yes.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma on Cozy Chic and Career Comebacks
Okay, good. Sarah, thank you so much for joining us. It's terrific. Tell everyone how they can find you, find your brand.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma on Cozy Chic and Career Comebacks
Yeah. So I guess we're bringing the comfort in there. Then the 80s, we have that athletic wear. Correct. And gaining popularity. Yeah. And that's sort of the rise of sportswear and athleisure. Nineties, grunge fashion, also like kind of oversized pieces, the oversized jeans, the ripped clothing. That's all coming back now again.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma on Cozy Chic and Career Comebacks
Wait, since when do you give me the credit?
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma on Cozy Chic and Career Comebacks
And you have to, obviously, I know you do give yourself credit, which is why I was surprised because like privately you give yourself credit, but I do. Yeah, yeah. But like, I will say just because I'm the one doing deals and like doing strategy for the business and like hiring people, like that doesn't, like, you know, your value, which is also being talent. Yes. And like.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma on Cozy Chic and Career Comebacks
You don't know if it's true or not, but you keep saying it. Yeah. No, but all your friends kind of do go to you as that person. Yes. That's the thing about you for sure. All right, sweetheart. All right. Thank you, Sarah. Thank you, Sarah. Thank you. My ego is now up a thousand percent. And you guys know how to follow us.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma on Cozy Chic and Career Comebacks
We're ExcuseMyGrandma on TikTok, Instagram, wherever you're listening to podcasts. And we'll see you next week.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma on Cozy Chic and Career Comebacks
Right. And then 2000s to now, really, it has less of an identity in my mind. I feel like you're right in that we're kind of cycling, just trying to pick things from the past. That we like, exactly. But definitely like loungewear because of COVID and everything.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma on Cozy Chic and Career Comebacks
yeah but but even now we kind of carried that through i think like um well hopefully it's going away with now the return to the workforce uh to the office but i think you're more comfortable at work too like if you think about the 80s and wearing power suits to now like you're not wearing a tie and you're not correct most of my friends i'm pretty sure can wear like jeans
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma on Cozy Chic and Career Comebacks
But they don't have to wear a dress.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma on Cozy Chic and Career Comebacks
Um, so that's sort of the history of it all, but I was thinking we could bring in an expert today, Sarah Fazell, who, um, is a founder of a company that's all about ease in fashion. So let's bring her into chat. Okay. Okay, grandma and I have been talking about comfort in fashion and how that's changed over the years. So we thought the perfect guest to talk to today would be Sarah Fazell.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma on Cozy Chic and Career Comebacks
She's the founder of Brave Pudding. She's a mom. She is one of those amazing female entrepreneurs that started a business that is doing amazing. So we can't wait. And different. Yeah, different.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma on Cozy Chic and Career Comebacks
Yeah. So Sarah, thank you for joining us. Thank you for having me. I'm so excited to be here. Us too. So we want to hear all about the journey of starting Brave Pudding, and then we have lots of questions.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma on Cozy Chic and Career Comebacks
We discover some old things that you forgot about sometimes. And yeah, I'm always ordering new stuff that you're like helping me decide whether to pick or to return.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma on Cozy Chic and Career Comebacks
Can I ask what makes a beautiful sock?
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma on Cozy Chic and Career Comebacks
Yeah, I'm not the best at ordering, but I feel like a lot of the time, obviously I'm wearing things that I would wear in my daily life, which is all pretty like comfortable. Correct. I mean, even if it's like a corseted dress or something, I was thinking about all like the past of fashion and thinking we could kind of go through the generations and talk about how fashion has changed so much from,
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma on Cozy Chic and Career Comebacks
Doesn't it feel good to take back the power?
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma on Cozy Chic and Career Comebacks
being really uncomfortable to more comfortable today. But even today, I lounge in leggings or sweatpants most days, unless I have to see people. But if you're lounging, you're wearing slacks.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma on Cozy Chic and Career Comebacks
It's actually such a good point. Like the judgment of you can't walk down the block to get a cab. Like, why does the Uber have to come around or things like this? And it's not easy to walk in heels after you've been in them all. It's not good for your back. And it's not like this is true. These are true. Yeah, I like it.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma on Cozy Chic and Career Comebacks
Well, also we're relearning societally. And this is what grandma and I talked about before you came in. Like, you know, hundreds of years ago, we were like really uncomfortable. We were in corsets and multiple layers of skirts and all of these things. And we're kind of relearning as women that we don't have to do that to look beautiful.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma on Cozy Chic and Career Comebacks
And that's not, you can't do that on your own either, by the way, like we all need to.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma on Cozy Chic and Career Comebacks
Such a generational difference.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Guide to Etiquette
Welcome back to another episode of Excuse My Grandma. It's Kim and my co-hosts. Grandma Gail.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Guide to Etiquette
So you've been a certified etiquette expert for years. Would love to know how you got into it.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Guide to Etiquette
Yeah, I feel like now it wouldn't be expected to read a book like that. Until you run into a certain problem, you weren't thinking about picking up the book. And I don't know, I do feel like it probably takes a big weight off of your back once you know, OK, I'm doing the right thing.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Guide to Etiquette
Yeah. OK, so I'm excited to actually pull you now and settle some discussions. So we'll do some rapid fire dating party table manner etiquette questions. And then I'm thinking maybe you'll say what you think, Grandma. I'll say what I think. And then Allison will tell us what the right thing to do is.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Guide to Etiquette
Okay, so let's talk about dating first, because we talk about that a lot. The question I used to get all the time, why are you still single? That a lot of people like to ask women. Do you think that's rude, Grandma?
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Guide to Etiquette
So how do you think you should ask that question, I guess?
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Guide to Etiquette
Right. I think you're right in that asking, are you seeing anyone?
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Guide to Etiquette
But why are you even curious unless you do have a setup or something like that?
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Guide to Etiquette
That's because I talk openly about, or I used to talk about being single so much, but most people don't walk around doing that.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Guide to Etiquette
But here's another dating one. How to exit a bad date. Do you have to... sit through it? Is there a certain excuse you use? What do you think the right thing is?
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Guide to Etiquette
I think I feel the same. I would usually bite the bullet, but there were some times where the waiter wasn't coming over, drinks would go on and on. And I had to be like, sorry, have a early day at work tomorrow. Do you think we could get the check? Or I would say, I did this once. I was like, my back really hurts on this couch. I think we need to like leave. But how would you say we should...
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Guide to Etiquette
You like are my paper. You give me sports news,
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Guide to Etiquette
Yeah. I think you have, when you're making the plan, you make a plan that you know has a beginning and an end.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Guide to Etiquette
Okay. Last dating one. When the bill comes. I used to say I would do the reach and be like, oh, can I? And kind of go into my bag with no real expectation of taking my wallet out. Do you have to offer to pay if that's not what you want in the dynamic? Grandma.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Guide to Etiquette
But even if you make more money than a man, you still might not want to pay.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Guide to Etiquette
Well, by the way, though, I think obviously there's spectrums of this, but even if a guy isn't making a ton at their job, they can still save enough. It's just a dinner.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Guide to Etiquette
But I have seen on TikTok and stuff that people talk about. It's like jeans, oversized jeans, a little crop top.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Guide to Etiquette
OK, let's talk about parties. I feel like we, is it rude to leave a party early? Or maybe it's not early. Maybe it's one of those parties that goes hours on end. Do you have to say goodbye to the host? Or I like, if it's a lot of people, I do tend to Irish exit, which is just escaping out the back door.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Guide to Etiquette
If it's a dinner party of 10 people, obviously I'm going to say goodbye, but I'm curious what you both think.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Guide to Etiquette
But I don't know what else they expect to wear.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Guide to Etiquette
Who gets a plus one? Who doesn't? Can you be offended if you don't get a plus one?
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Guide to Etiquette
There's a lot of single people at the wedding and you know that they'll know each other. Maybe not. But if you're only inviting three single people and not giving them plus ones, it's not the best.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Guide to Etiquette
But I guess people say like they go out to a restaurant in New York and they see like 15 girls walk in for dinner and they're like in a uniform.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Guide to Etiquette
Because my friends are all like, if you're not engaged, you're not getting a plus one.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Guide to Etiquette
But you want your guests to have fun, right? It's tough.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Guide to Etiquette
Okay, let's talk about parties on a smaller scale. Let's say you're having a dinner party. We always get asked about like hosting gifts and things like that. So what is the proper etiquette? Like, should you always bring something with you versus sending flowers or something the next day?
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Guide to Etiquette
I know I feel like I've heard don't bring flowers or something that night because it could kind of ruin the aesthetic of whatever they planned in their home. So is there a right way to do that?
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Guide to Etiquette
my thing is usually if my friends are having a birthday party or something at a restaurant and i want to bring them a birthday gift but then i feel like if we're not going home after and we're going out but maybe they are going home i'm never sure if i should bring something with me because if other people at the party are bringing something and then i was planning on sending something the next day i don't want them to feel like i forgot right yeah
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Guide to Etiquette
Also, if I don't know, I mean, I happen to know a little bit about wine. But if you don't know about wine and then you're just going to like a grocery store or something, like... I know a $30, but is it just a thought? Because people can be picky with their wine.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Guide to Etiquette
Because most people aren't going to buy a $200 bottle of wine as a gift.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Guide to Etiquette
Right. Yeah, because if you're bringing something as your hostess gift, sometimes it's totally fine. But I do have friends that if they're staying with me or something, they'll bring like cookies for my parents, but then they eat the cookies.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Guide to Etiquette
that's all right my parents don't care but it's just like that's an example I feel like um okay let's talk about table manners for a little bit uh grandma and I were discussing this before you came um but having your phone out at the dinner table um is there a if it bothers you is there a way to politely call the person out and say like do you mind not having your phone out
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Guide to Etiquette
people don't look the same as new york it might be just like a placebo effect they tie their scarves differently they they wear their bags a little differently it's the same stuff it's just how like you say put it together speaking of i was scrolling through social media the other day and i saw this couple that was out for dinner i think he might have been a famous dj or something well they tried to go to a restaurant in miami but they turned him away because he was wearing a t-shirt oh a lot of people want jackets
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Guide to Etiquette
And it's usually not that. I mean, like there are some, friends or my boyfriend who like I know he'll have to do work if we want to go to an early dinner sure but with most of my friends if we're at dinner and we're pulling out our phones it's like to scroll or like check it's nonsense like nonsense it's nonsense yeah um
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Guide to Etiquette
Also with food, when you're at a restaurant, I feel like I know this, but I want to set the story straight. If everyone's getting served and only like two people have their food or three people have their food, like when can you start
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Guide to Etiquette
But I feel like our family always like kind of screams this at each other when we're at, when we go out for dinner and two people get served and like, let's say Poppy starts eating and then my dad would be like, why are you eating? I haven't been served. And then he's like, two people have been served.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Guide to Etiquette
That's what happens. And then with communication in general, I wanted to just get your perspective on what our older audience who's listening, how they can learn more about modern texting and communication. I feel like, for example, we were talking about this earlier, but Grandma doesn't think you have to respond to a text right away, whereas if it was a friend, I'd be like, that's so rude.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Guide to Etiquette
So when there's those generational divides, do we just have to not take it personally?
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Guide to Etiquette
Yeah. OK, so with Passover and Easter coming up and a lot of people are going to be hosting and having dinner parties and everything else, we thought we would do a little crash course of just how to do a proper table setting. I always end up like calling you. I get confused. I don't host a lot.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Guide to Etiquette
Also, if there's certain things about like how to hold our cutlery and our wine glasses, we're going to go through all that.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Guide to Etiquette
Yeah, but do you think that's like an outdated thing? No. Even if the, whether it's a fancy restaurant or just a trendy restaurant or whatever, like the no jeans or no t-shirt rule to me seems outdated as you're saying that's what everybody wears.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Guide to Etiquette
Okay, we have out our table setting. Allison's going to tell us everything that we need to know.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Guide to Etiquette
Wait, can I borrow one and see what I do? I don't know what I do. Hold on. So if I am Yeah, there you go. You're doing great. Do I do that? I think I do that. But does it have to be like that? Basically, for people who are just listening, your fingers have to be straight. And I feel like I kind of curl that.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Guide to Etiquette
plate the fork and knife are face up parallel to the plate because i i didn't realize i thought you do that every time you put your silverware down but then people would think i was finished if i was in the middle so that makes sense that there's different yes codes and it's even this is getting really technical here but
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Guide to Etiquette
Thank you. That's a good thing. If you are going to the bathroom or getting up in the middle of the meal, where does your napkin go?
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Guide to Etiquette
I didn't realize that. Sometimes I feel like I was putting it on the plate. That's no.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Guide to Etiquette
Right, exactly. OK, what if you're at a dinner party or just out for dinner and it's like family style kind of food? How do you know who to serve first or if you can serve yourself first? I don't think you have to serve yourself first.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Guide to Etiquette
I feel like if I'm out with a bunch of girls and the food comes, why can't you put food on your plate first?
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Guide to Etiquette
I feel like there's less to catch up on when we're actually in the same place because we're talking outside of the podcast versus I feel like some co-hosts, like they only see each other once a week when they have to record and they like have a list of things they need to catch up on. Sometimes we don't see each other for weeks.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Guide to Etiquette
So if you're on a date and food comes, should I say, can I serve you some first?
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Guide to Etiquette
Yeah, I feel like generationally there are manners that are kind of different. Like you would have expected to wear a jacket and a tie and a tie. And also even with like communication and things, we've talked about this, but like there's certain etiquette rules of texting that I feel like generationally are different. Like, you'll leave me a voicemail and I'm like, can you just text me?
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Guide to Etiquette
When you're pouring wine, is there like a level it should be poured to? Yes, so you don't want to go past the halfway point. Okay. And then you were going to show us something with tea or coffee, like stirring. So if we use, okay, I'll move this over here.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Guide to Etiquette
Exactly. This is tea and coffee is... You would curl them together. Exactly. Yes. I think I do that one.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Guide to Etiquette
So how do you get everyone's attention? I think that's a hard one.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Guide to Etiquette
We've learned so much. This was such a great demo. As we wrap it up, anything else you want the audience or listeners to know and where they can follow you?
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Guide to Etiquette
Like, I am not listening to a voice. To me, like a voicemail is like, now you expect me to take time to listen to this?
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Guide to Etiquette
Yeah. I feel like I learned a lot with Allison. That was fun. She's terrific.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Guide to Etiquette
To end out the episode, you and I should play a little game of Should We Bring It Back, but with retro manners. Okay. So kissing on the cheek as a greeting, which we still kind of do. Like it's, you know, being like, hi, how are you? Mwah. Mwah, mwah, mwah. On both cheeks.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Guide to Etiquette
Well, I don't think I ever did European style. Did everybody used to do European style? I don't know. It just depends. No. Okay. I don't think that's bad. Yeah, I think it's fine too.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Guide to Etiquette
What about getting the car door for a woman?
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Guide to Etiquette
Agree. Addressing like adults by their last name, like Mr., Mrs., whoever.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Guide to Etiquette
But growing up, when I would go to my friends' houses, I didn't say Mr. and Mrs. Well, then that was their rules.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Guide to Etiquette
so and so this is so and so i don't know i feel like that's been lost a little bit and that like in um more casual to your friends i say mr and mrs but i would to mom's friends i would never say mr and mrs like i know them but you know them very well maybe maybe it's a matter that you just know them better yeah it could be um Okay, having the man order your meal for you.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Guide to Etiquette
So like you told him your order first, and then when the waiter comes over, he orders for both of you. Did that used to happen?
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Guide to Etiquette
Well, also sometimes I text you and like three days later you're like, yeah, I like that shirt. And I'm like, what are you talking about? And then I realize you're referring to a text from three days before.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Guide to Etiquette
I don't think there's anything wrong with it. I feel like usually I'm sharing if I'm out with Zach or something. So then whoever one of us feels like talking to the waiter, we just order for both of us. But it is kind of hard when both people are like, I'll have this. And then they're like, and also this. I feel like one person does take over.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Guide to Etiquette
Yeah. I think bring it back. Okay. Quick Ask Grandma Anything. People wrote in, what is your favorite memory of Kim as a little girl?
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Guide to Etiquette
What are things to see for someone's first time in Palm Beach or do?
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Guide to Etiquette
But if a friend didn't respond to me for three days, I'd be like, she's mad at me. Something happened. So just, there are like etiquette rules for that.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Guide to Etiquette
I don't even know if I'd go out of my way to do those things as a first-time visitor. Those are, I feel like, I feel like you go to Worth Avenue.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Guide to Etiquette
uh but there's a lot to do and just enjoy the weather and the people yeah we'll get some to we'll get to some of these other questions on instagram um so definitely follow us at excuse my grandma um we're everywhere you we're basically on every social media platform um so we will see you next week bye
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Guide to Etiquette
Yeah. I think we need to discuss this further later in the episode. Okay. But first let's do the drama club. Okay. This podcast, The Good Guys, which has Josh Peck as one of the co-hosts who was on that show, Drake and Josh, that I used to watch on Nickelodeon.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Guide to Etiquette
And he's so great. I actually just saw him speak at a meta event for some influencers at the Facebook offices, Instagram offices. Yeah. he finally had Drake, his old Nickelodeon co-host on his podcast. And that was like a long awaited thing. So a lot, it's in two parts and I've seen some clips online and people are like really interested to see them back together again.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Guide to Etiquette
And then obviously there's that bad past that Drake unfortunately went through. I watched the documentary, Quiet on Set, that was a year ago, I think at this point.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Guide to Etiquette
Yeah, he's been talking about it openly for a little bit of time now. Um, yeah. And it, I mean, yes, the whole thing is so sad also, because it's like, you are confused and impressionable and you want a career and you think they're trying to please their adults around them and, and, and they distant the, the, people in power, they distance the children from their families, too.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Guide to Etiquette
But you can think you're really watching somebody. And it's really sometimes, yes, it's the parents involvement, but sometimes it's also just systematically like these institutions changing their ways and having things in place that to make sure they're taking care of their people.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Guide to Etiquette
Right. And we've been talking about this issue now since the documentary. It's been like a year, as I said. But I think it'll be interesting also to be listening to the conversation with
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Guide to Etiquette
um josh because i feel like he was on set with him every day as children he didn't even know what was going on so hearing them relive it that way and they just had like the most fun dynamic well i'm glad i'm glad i'm glad he's starting to heal yeah i'm excited to listen um okay let's move on to the grandma report This week there is an article in self.com talking about age gap relationships.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Guide to Etiquette
And they get a bad rap usually. We get a lot of questions always asking, is it okay if we're this amount of time apart? But there are some tips that Self Magazine laid out of like how to actually make it work. But we've also seen it a lot more in the media. I think it was last year in Baby Girl, Family Affair, Bridget Jones. They all portrayed those age gap relationships.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Guide to Etiquette
So here's what they said on Self Magazine as the tips.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Guide to Etiquette
Okay, find shared interests that transcend generations. I agree with that. Like you can connect with someone regardless of their age. Approach your differences with curiosity. So you can try out each other's hobbies, even if you think it might not be something you're interested in, you can embrace a trend from their generation.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Guide to Etiquette
So like, and if the guy is into it, like perfect.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Guide to Etiquette
The article basically says that in that, like, you should get on the same page about your non-negotiables as early as possible. Like, if one person wants a family and one person doesn't. Exactly. That's the biggest drawback. Because then if you're aligned, like, move forward. Yeah. And then like all relationships, it's like, don't let the minor issues fester.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Guide to Etiquette
Yeah, I mean, I think it's like, for example, if one person has an insecurity of, oh, I don't think you're going to like, I'm scared you won't be attracted to me as I get older. Oh, and also taking care of them. Right. Taking care of them.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Guide to Etiquette
Right. So openly talk about those things. And then it's like show the haters that you're a united front. So, you know. like with your friends and your family, it helps to say, I hope you're happy for us and things like that. Let's do Grandma Gail's voicemail.

Hi, Kim and Grandma Gail.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Guide to Etiquette
My partner and I have been together for two years and recently moved in together. We get along really well, but I've started to notice little differences in how we handle social situations, especially at the dinner table. I was raised to be mindful of things like not speaking with a mouthful, keeping phones away during meals and waiting for everyone to be served before eating.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Guide to Etiquette
My partner, on the other hand, is much more relaxed about these things and doesn't see them as a big deal. I don't want to come across as nitpicky, but I do think small gestures like these matter. What's the best way to bring this up without making it feel like I'm trying to correct them? I'd love any advice if you have on balancing personal values with differences in a relationship.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Guide to Etiquette
You know what, though? I do do it with you guys, but if I was on a date, I don't bring out my phone. Even if I'm on a one-on-one with my girlfriends, I think maybe it's the one-on-one thing. I feel like I have to be present, and if I want to take out my phone to show them something, I'll say, can I take out my phone and show you this?
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Guide to Etiquette
But if it's a group, I think I do just look at my phone because I figure that the rest of the conversation will keep going even if I'm looking at my phone.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Guide to Etiquette
And I mean, you could say, like, I know I haven't said anything. Well, that's a good way. But I do feel like I'd love if you didn't chew with your mouth open. It's kind of giving me the ick. In like a...

not such a serious way but just be like i mean i don't know zach does this where if he blows his nose oh i don't think we have to talk about your boyfriend's voice i'm just like please do it in the bathroom like dad does it too like he'll do it in the kitchen i'm like i don't want to hear someone blowing their nose like and then now he just says it in the bathroom but it's a normal bodily function i don't want to hear it oh well that's your problem so whatever i think you can say that well i don't think it should be done at the dinner table yeah yeah
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Guide to Etiquette
So grandma, we talked a lot about manners and etiquette. So I think it's time to bring in an expert who can kind of settle some of these discussions. So we're going to bring in someone who knows a lot about etiquette. So I'm going to go get her. Okay. Okay. Grandma and I were talking earlier about all the generational differences of manners and etiquette.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma's Guide to Etiquette
So we're so excited because we're finally bringing in an expert. to settle some of these discussions. Alison Shepardock, if you follow her, she's the Elevate Etiquette on Instagram. And we're excited to talk to you. Thanks for joining.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Solo: Spring Flings and NYC Summer
Some of these actually, both of these, I don't think I ever told my grandma. So buckle up. Welcome back to Excuse My Grandma. This week, it's just me, Kim. Grandma's not here, so we're gonna get into the things I probably wouldn't wanna bring up if she were sitting here next to me. So this week, I'm gonna talk about getting back into city life.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Solo: Spring Flings and NYC Summer
And if you're pleasantly surprised, like I think that's a really good sign to try it with someone. So this summer, I definitely want to enter with intention, both professionally and socially, like literally from my parents supervising my dates to now hopefully planning some adult dinner parties with people I actually want in my life. It's a really full circle moment.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Solo: Spring Flings and NYC Summer
So I really think this summer is going to be about blending the social and the personal, staying grounded. keeping work creative, and being intentional about who and what I spend my energy on. So I'm really happy we could talk this week, you guys.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Solo: Spring Flings and NYC Summer
He's visiting from LA and we've been making lots of plans because he doesn't always, you know, I want him to meet all of my friends who he really hasn't. And he doesn't get to like experience my life here in the way that I do. So I always get excited. I want him to, you know, I make double dates with everybody and I make group plans. So we really have like every night busy.

Excuse My Solo: Spring Flings and NYC Summer
I also am going to take him uptown to see where I grew up at some point because it's so nostalgic for me to go to all those childhood spots, which always makes me feel so connected to the city again. And I usually split my days between being uptown where my grandma is and I kind of get that creative side of my job because I'm filming with my grandma so much and getting that content done.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Solo: Spring Flings and NYC Summer
And then downtown at my apartment is... you know, where I get to do the behind the scenes producer writer type work and do calls with my team and calls with brands and really the business side of things. So I kind of feel like work from home
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Solo: Spring Flings and NYC Summer
is at my apartment and then like going into the office is going to see grandma gail so that's really how my days look and the whole spring like the weather in the city has been amazing it's all anyone can talk about like it's all giving reset energy With wardrobe, like we're, you know, putting the coats away and we're wearing our new outfits. Our routines look different.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Solo: Spring Flings and NYC Summer
And I feel like even with relationships and dating, you kind of...
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Solo: Spring Flings and NYC Summer
naturally every spring and summer start a new roster of new people and like you're adding I feel like you're going out more just like happy hours and everyone's in a good mood so you're going out on the weekends and the weather's nice and maybe you're going somewhere away for the weekend so you're always meeting new people and I in the past feel like it was always the busiest time for dating.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Solo: Spring Flings and NYC Summer
So even, I mean, I know this sounds, I'm so old school and I'm such a romantic, so this sounds like the opposite, but I would literally like have a note in my phone of guys I was going out with, guys that were after that, like few guys in the roster, if they didn't work out, the ones that I'm planning on adding in,
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Solo: Spring Flings and NYC Summer
like either I just got their numbers or I want to ask a friend to set me up with them or whatever it is, and even new interests. So they were all in the phone and it just like, to be fair, I was treating dating a little bit like a job because Obviously on Excuse My Grandma, we talk about dating and relationships and it felt a little bit like research.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Solo: Spring Flings and NYC Summer
And now that I'm in a relationship, like just whatever those topics are, I'm just thinking of my boyfriend in my head and like my current relationships. But before when I was going on lots of different first dates, there was a lot to work with. So I'm just filling my nights in different ways.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Solo: Spring Flings and NYC Summer
Like before it was first dates, now it's date nights with my boyfriend or nights with my friends or a lot of the time, work events because brands will do like activations and things especially in the city um like pre or post dinner and i get to meet some people which is always great and then fashion wise i'm definitely deep into grandma core like
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Solo: Spring Flings and NYC Summer
It's all I can think about, whether it's home aesthetics, which is like cottage, vintage pieces, antique, and then clothing too, like also vintage, but cardigans, cozy, like cool stuff. But it has not been my aesthetic. It's really been my grandma gals.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Solo: Spring Flings and NYC Summer
And I really want to lean in and I'm getting obsessed with like sourcing and finding these vintage pieces that feel really personal and also remind me of my grandma. So if you guys know any like...
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Solo: Spring Flings and NYC Summer
spots to find these kind of things either home clothing whatever it is like please let me know because I'm making it a personal project for the summer and that's really fun and exciting to me also this week we have my grandma's birthday my mom's birthday and then my grandpa's birthday three days in a row and by the time this episode comes out it'll already have been my mom and grandma's birthday so I can share a little bit about what I'm getting them and stuff um
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Solo: Spring Flings and NYC Summer
I am a birthday person. My grandma Gail, not so much. I will make the whole month of February about my birthday. She knows what she wants. She's like, I don't need a gift. Actually, let's not even go to dinner. Like I'm over you. Like, no, I'm kidding.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Solo: Spring Flings and NYC Summer
But because we're going to dinner the next two nights for my mom and grandpa's birthday, she's like, we don't need to go to dinner with the same group of people three nights in a row. Like we'll have lunch. So that's our plan so far. I'm going to go to lunch with her and my mom at, The new private club that I joined, San Vicente, which is in the Old Jane Hotel in the West Village.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Solo: Spring Flings and NYC Summer
the birthdays in my family coming up and what we have planned and what I'm planning on getting them, spring flings of the past versus having my boyfriend now, building a roster and all my tips, and what it's like just having a boyfriend heading into this summer when work is crazy busy. So let's get into all of it. So I'm officially back from Palm Beach for the season.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Solo: Spring Flings and NYC Summer
And she hasn't seen it yet. And she, like, loves that kind of stuff. So I think that'll be fun. And then I got her a gift from Christian Dior, one of her favorite designers. And she totally deserves it with all the work that she puts in with Excuse My Grandma. But it's hard to get this lady a gift, I'm telling you. Like, I think she...
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Solo: Spring Flings and NYC Summer
has high standards and also wouldn't use a lot of things unless like she really liked it so I know she likes Dior and I couldn't really afford a sweater or like a bag from there but there's a beautiful like glass bowl that I got her it's like an ice bucket and I think she'll really use it a lot in East Hampton and it gives that like you know, vintage vibe. So I think she'll really like it.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Solo: Spring Flings and NYC Summer
Very classy. And yeah, then for my mom, I got her a pair of sunglasses she's been eyeing and I still need to get something for Poppy. By the way, what'd we think of the Poppy reveal? I feel like it was so exciting to finally show him. And it totally snuck up on me when we reached 500,000 followers that I was like, oh my God, I just have to post him now.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Solo: Spring Flings and NYC Summer
Like I didn't even get to tease it out as much as I would have wanted. But I know we only got to see him for a second. I'm hoping we get a podcast with him or something that we can really get to know his personality or I know his personality that you guys can really get to know his personality. And, you know, maybe when we hit a million because that feels like a big deal.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Solo: Spring Flings and NYC Summer
But we're going to hit 500,000 on TikTok pretty soon. So let us know what you want to see for that. Like maybe I know we haven't seen my mom yet. So maybe that. So anyway, if you guys are listening and don't follow us on TikTok already, go press follow. Tell your friends, tell your daughter, tell your mom, whatever. And yeah, I feel like we're growing so much. It's really, really exciting.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Solo: Spring Flings and NYC Summer
It's so fun to see. And there's so much more in store to show all of you, including an event that we're doing May 7th at Blushington that we're actually going to meet all of our community in person. Like you can buy a ticket that's going to bottomless closet, which is an amazing charity and come and hang out with us and we'll take pics and we'll chat. Um, again, it's at Blushington.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Solo: Spring Flings and NYC Summer
You can get a little mini glam moment, um, You can have champagne, light bites. We're going to walk away with an amazing gift bag with like a lot of our favorite items. So hopefully we see you on May 7th. The link is on our Instagram. If you just check there, we have the link in our bio and we'll be posting about it up until the event.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Solo: Spring Flings and NYC Summer
Okay, let's get into past spring fillings, little situation shifts that I've had. Some of these, actually both of these, I don't think I ever told my grandma. So buckle up. The first one, okay. Unfortunately I have a thing for guys who have motorcycles. I'm sorry. Like I think I've outgrown it to be fair. Cause like I have a bad back and I would never do it again. but I did have a thing.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Solo: Spring Flings and NYC Summer
We're not gonna talk about the main situationship whose bike I was on a good amount. We're gonna talk about this guy who, we're gonna talk about, what am I saying? We're going to talk about this guy who I went on two dates with. He was a great guy. Ended up not being my type, but really nice. And I knew, I was in the Hamptons staying with my parents because it was summer.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Solo: Spring Flings and NYC Summer
And I made this date from a dating app on the weekend. And I told my parents I would never date a guy with a motorcycle again. But of course he, I didn't know he had a bike, but he texted me. He's like, I'll pick you up. I have this 1970s Vespa. That's all you have to say to me to like melt. I'm like, oh my gosh. Like I love old vehicles. I love nostalgia. I want to be on the back of the bike.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Solo: Spring Flings and NYC Summer
I want my Roman holiday moment. I'm Audrey Hepburn. I'm envisioning it. But if my parents saw this bike come up to the apartment, I would not be allowed to go. So I literally told him to meet me down the road because, you know, safety, independence, all that. Um, I still wanted to go, but if, yeah, I couldn't have my parents see or hear that happening. So I'm like, okay, bye mom and dad.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Solo: Spring Flings and NYC Summer
I won't go back again until November. So I'm easing my way back into New York City life again and soon the Hamptons. So most days I've been uptown because I want to get stuff done with my grandma. And it's also just a...
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Solo: Spring Flings and NYC Summer
I called an Uber and it didn't come to the front of the house. And I like walked down, this is three or four years ago at this point, FYI, but And yeah, I walked down the street and the guy was like, why didn't you want me to pick you up in front of your house? And, you know, it was easier just not to. I was like, don't worry about it.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Solo: Spring Flings and NYC Summer
And we actually had a nice date, but, you know, just didn't align. Um, speaking of not my type though, there was another date I wanted to tell from summer and I love creative date ideas.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Solo: Spring Flings and NYC Summer
This was a beach picnic date that I went on, but this is just to show you how codependent me and my family are, or actually I should just say how my parents really have no boundaries when it comes to me and my love life. So this guy who I think was also from a dating app, uh, might've been a setup. I don't remember, but he, um, picked me up in a car.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Solo: Spring Flings and NYC Summer
and we went to the beach and did like a beach picnic and you kind of lose track of time on those kind of dates because there's no waiter coming over and it was a nice date. And so I think three hours went by My parents thought I was murdered. They were texting and calling, which I didn't see because I was rude. I wasn't looking at my phone.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Solo: Spring Flings and NYC Summer
And they decided to get in a car with my brother, too, and drive to the beach because they knew where I was. They could see and find my friends where I was because they have me on there since they're nuts. Love you guys, but, like, you're nuts.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Solo: Spring Flings and NYC Summer
And they thought I must have just, like, drowned in the ocean since it had been three hours, so they decided to drive to the beach, pretty quickly see where I'm sitting on the beach, but that's not enough. They want to, like, you know, stake out and watch the whole date go down like it was a live episode of The Bachelor.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Solo: Spring Flings and NYC Summer
And they stayed for a while, but then they eventually left, and then the guy took me home, and... and like walked me to the door and my dad opened the door and was like, hi. I was like, why do we have to meet on the first date? You don't even know if I like this guy. The whole thing. It's a little hard to date from home, I will say. But you need your parents to like the guy, right?
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Solo: Spring Flings and NYC Summer
So, you know, at the end of it, I could easily say not my type for either, but it was fun and creative date ideas. I do like the outdoor dates. I used to do a lot of walking dates, and my grandma was always like, why are you walking? What are you, Forrest Gump? And I was like, you know what? Fair. I think the days of the walking date might have to be over. We should probably...
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Solo: Spring Flings and NYC Summer
easy middle ground between being in Palm Beach and in downtown New York City and seeing my friends to kind of have that like a few days on the Upper East Side it eases you back in from super old school of Florida to New York life again and it's It's going pretty well, I think. I've been really happy to be back. Zach, my boyfriend, has been here too, which has changed my social rhythm a bit.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Solo: Spring Flings and NYC Summer
sit at a bar or a restaurant like normal people. I am excited for the Hamptons this summer. Usually my social scene there was like trying to get into these trendy bars like Surf Lodge and Talk House, because that's where everyone would go out. But I get tired pretty early now. I mean, I always had this inside me, but it's really like stressful to get into those places.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Solo: Spring Flings and NYC Summer
Like it's never really been my vibe. And I always gravitated toward parent parties.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Solo: Spring Flings and NYC Summer
it's so much nicer if you if your friends parents are having parties or your parents are having parties just bring a few friends to that like it's free food it's like way chiller of an atmosphere they probably have like music and a pretty setup it's not like you're not drinking out of solo cups like i love that stuff um i can think of like over the last year or so like i went to a shabbat that was really nice at one of my friends houses um
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Solo: Spring Flings and NYC Summer
One of my friends, her parents had a party and invited us and our dinner party, you know, and they like, they had great food and they had a karaoke machine that Zach and I like hogged the whole night, which was so much fun. I've always been an old soul. So maybe this isn't appealing to people, but I'm finally leaning into that instead of pretending that like, oh my God, I love the bar scene.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Solo: Spring Flings and NYC Summer
And like, I'm not going to be there till I'm 40. Like once in a while, a hundred percent, but I want to definitely spend more time like at the adults table, you know? This summer is definitely gonna be a little bit different since Zach hopefully will be in the Hamptons with me sometimes. And it's really, I mean, we were dating last summer, but it was the very beginning.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Solo: Spring Flings and NYC Summer
And we're staying at my parents' house when we're in the Hamptons.
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Solo: Spring Flings and NYC Summer
and we're even in separate rooms actually uh because my parents it kind of began as a rule when i was younger and then it became my rule because i was like we'll sleep in the same room but like i love having my closet in a separate room getting ready in a separate room doing my hair and makeup and then like i'll go over and visit his room a little bit during the day and then we can have a sleepover and we'll hang out and whatever but like it's nice to have the separate
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Solo: Spring Flings and NYC Summer
um spaces and uh I'm trying to think if he stayed with us for an extended amount of time I think it was just in Palm Beach he was with my grandparents for like 10 days straight um and yeah that was the longest amount of time but that's honestly like
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Solo: Spring Flings and NYC Summer
when you know that after 10 days everything went well like it shows you how much you like really vibe with someone and I always think I feel like a question my friends ask me and like that I would always stress about is like oh I just started seeing someone new but like should we do the weekend trip together is it too early like should they meet my parents and I honestly think if you want to you should do it like obviously don't do it after two dates but
Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Solo: Spring Flings and NYC Summer
after 10 dates and you're like, is it still too early to like have him stay with my family for the weekend? Like I did that with Zach before we were even boyfriend and girlfriend because it's kind of a nice way to not test it out, but like you see how they interact with your family. Like you see, were you sick of them by the end of the weekend?
