The House of Representatives is preparing to vote on legislation that would extend power of the federal government to eavesdrop on foreign nationals outside the U.S.
The Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act is also known as FISA, and Section 702 of the law is set to expire next Monday.
It lets the government collect secret information without getting a judicial warrant.
But it also lets the federal government sweep up conversations of anti-Americans who interact with the foreign citizens.
Civil liberties activists oppose the FISA law.
President Trump supports it.

Pakistan is proposing hosting a second round of talks between the U.S.
and Iran in coming days, according to the Associated Press.
The talks would be held in Pakistan before the end of the current ceasefire.
Last weekend's talks ended with no agreement.
Vice President Vance led the U.S.
Bann says President Trump has said the war with Iran will not go on forever.
The head of the International Energy Agency says more than 80 energy facilities have been hit across the Mideast so far during the war on Iran.

It could take up to two years to repair the damage.
