And in order to allow our ICE and our Border Patrol individuals that are working in Minneapolis to do so safely, we're going to continue to, if they conduct violent activities against law enforcement, if they impede our operations, that's a crime.
And we will hold them accountable to those consequences.
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem says the ICE agent shot the Minneapolis woman, Renee Good, in self-defense and followed his training after she blocked federal officers with her SUV and disobeyed orders to get out of her vehicle.
Speaking in Minneapolis after the shooting, Noem also said that this wasn't the first time Jonathan Ross had found himself in a confrontation with a vehicle.
Noem has said that the officer is now, quote, recovering with family.
It's unclear if the officer is on leave or being investigated by the agency.
This is an experienced officer who followed his training, and we will continue to let the investigation unfold into the individual and continue to follow the procedures and policies that happen in these use-of-force cases.
She then proceeded to weaponize her vehicle and attempted to run a law enforcement officer over.
This appears as an attempt to kill or to cause bodily harm to agents, an act of domestic terrorism.
The ICE officer fearing for his life and the other officers around him and the safety of the public fired defensive shots.
He used his training to save his own life and that of his colleagues.
He was treated at a local hospital, has been released and is now with family.
