Yeah, people were saying, you know, Bono Barrett's probably not in the same class as Dan Carter, but people were saying this about Dan Carter in the last couple of years because he was always injured, and when he was playing, he was pretty ineffective.
And then all of a sudden at the World Cup, he turned it on when we needed him to.
Did he what?
And there was a lot of calls for him to be dropped from that team ahead of that World Cup.
Yeah, he started out in Japan, and he was meant to go to France on a two-year contract, and there was rumours that he was trying to get out of it, and that's when the NRL meter in Australia went nuts thinking he was coming back to the NRL and nothing happened.
He's in his very late 20s now, isn't he, Joey Marnie?
Let me just double check his age.
The last time we saw him play in this part of the world, continually, obviously was in the NRL.
Wouldn't he be better at fullback then maybe?
No, he's not.
Well, he can't be.
By NZR's own laws, he can't be.
But I just wonder if New Zealand rugby are going to change these eligibility laws sooner rather than later.
I think in the next couple, maybe after the World Cup, they'll look at changing it.
I'd be surprised if this stays the way.
Because there's just so many guys that now, I've been a big believer in, we've always produced great talent, so you've just got to take it on the chin that some guys are going to go overseas and some guys will stay here.
time there's so many great players going overseas and when you couple that with what we've seen with South Africa and the fact that the best club comps are not in New Zealand anymore it just is a no-brainer to work with other unions around the world work with World Rugby and say let's have a global season allow our players to go overseas and let's just find a route to get there.
Counter, do you think it would be more beneficial if you allowed that for younger players because it would accelerate the development and harden them up from a younger age?
So they may have played only 20 tests, or 15, but you know they're going to be a star.
No, because then you lose control.
