On Wednesday, the world was reminded of what really runs markets these days, the chips powering AI and the administration shaping the rules around them.

The World Economic Forum's annual meeting is underway in Davos, Switzerland this week.

And Wednesday's agenda featured two of the most powerful people in the world, the U.S.

president and the CEO of the world's biggest company.

Greenland was front and center for the president, who ruled out any use of force to take the territory, even as he pressed for immediate negotiations over a possible acquisition.

That came after Nvidia's CEO offered some reassurance of his own, stating that the AI build-out will require trillions of dollars in new infrastructure spending over the next few years.

That should create opportunities for electricians, plumbers, and construction workers, pushing back against fears that the technology will wipe out more jobs than it adds.

Investors have been branching out beyond big tech, hunting in international markets for cheaper stocks with a better shot at strong returns.

That's left most of the Magnificent Seven treading water for the past six months, with Nvidia only just managing a 5% uptick.

So now, the chipmaker actually looks like the cheapest of the group on some measures, like the price-to-earnings ratio.

That could make its stock look a lot more appealing, provided NVIDIA's revenue and profit stay on track.

And that rests on a big if.
