You'd probably take Warren Buffett as a man who doesn't regret much, but this week he admitted to chopping down Berkshire's apple steak too soon, worried that the size of it would overwhelm the firm's portfolio.

Now, Apple is still Berkshire's biggest holding, even though it's less than half the size it used to be.

At $62 billion, the stake makes up roughly 18% of the firm's listed portfolio.

And it's performed pretty well, making more than $100 billion over the years.

So the oracle says he'd happily buy more Apple stock, but only if it gets cheaper.

Buffett's comments are a reminder that Berkshire thinks like a classic value investor.

It can love a business plenty, but it'll only buy when the price is right.

That discipline has kept the firm from making many big purchases over the past few years, leaving it with a massive $370 billion cash pile.

Berkshire isn't changing strategy, though, not even for AI.

Sure, it has a $4.9 billion stake in Alphabet, but that fit the firm's regular bill.

It scooped up Google's parent, which generates a ton of cash, at a reasonable price, rather than overpaying for hype.

Apple stands out in The Magnificent Seven.

Unlike, say, Alphabet or Amazon, it's not throwing fistfuls of cash into building its own AI infrastructure.
