One time when I was in college, I was living in an apartment with my girlfriend at the time. And downstairs there was a little Scientology org. it was tiny you know and um i i had heard of it you know but this was back in the middle 60s long time ago and so scientology was totally new and they they showed me the um i forgot the name of the little lie detector

And, you know, I've written about a lot of religions over my long career, and I'm always intrigued by the fact that reporters tend to pay a lot of attention to politics. But my observation is that you can be, you can have really strong political beliefs that don't affect your behavior at all. And I'm sure everybody knows those people. A lot of reporters think it's impolite, prying into what people believe, and yet they'll readily ask, are you a Trump supporter or something like that. But they won't ask, are you a Mormon? Or, you know, it's just it seems impolite and also pathetic. You know, reporters typically are very skeptical.
