That was, to me, genius.
It does.
I'm completely comfortable with Matt Shaw, who did not take the perfect routes to every ball in Game 1 of the regular season, which is to be expected, but he didn't make any errors either.
I'm good with that.
I'm more concerned...
With what happened with another clutch at bat late in the game, and instead of Matt Shaw, it's Michael Conforto.
And when I tell you I understand what Michael Conforto was at one time, and I understand what the idea could be again, lefty in for a righty who started this game against a righty.
But when I tell you he looked overmatched at the plate, I know it's tough to pinch hit, but I was like, ah, maybe Matt Shaw should still be in there.
I thought with Clayton Beater on the mound, and like I said, a situation where the Cubs are trying to score runs.
And maybe it was too late anyway, but I just think as much Matt Shaw as possible, while that's the advantage you have of not having Seiya Suzuki, is to find out where Matt Shaw is in all possibilities of what you think you're going to utilize him for in 2026.
They benefited from the wind going crazy out to right.
It was crazy to watch how the wind can affect one ball versus another.
We'll get to see it again tomorrow when the real ace takes the hill, Kate Horton.
It's going to be great to talk to him specifically about his freshman, Keaton Wagler.
I have very specific questions, and I think everyone is finding out what a star this young man could be, even though he's going to be a one and done.
Not 100.
Didn't you say 67?
They'll win 67.
And lose 95, yeah.
The crazy thing was, it wasn't just that he hit the home run, which is obviously the most desirous of results to start a season.
