to exactly spell out, and the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, to spell out exactly what does it mean when they say, we stand with the Jewish community and root out this hatred.

Because these are easy words to say, and everybody, self-evidently, or nearly everybody, would agree with them.

It is harder to translate, actually, what that means.

And that is, it feels to me, now it's going to become quite a big part of our politics in the coming days and weeks.

I think the King did as well as anybody might do in this situation and in fairness to him it may end up being a defining moment of his reign in the sense that I can't quite imagine his late mother delivering that sort of speech

and being quite as pointed as he was.

I think it is a different style of kingship, a different style of diplomacy.

He clearly had some things he wanted to say, and certainly some in America have welcomed it.

And, you know, I think lots of people on this side of the Atlantic and in Europe will have welcomed those subtle rebukes to Trump about executive power, as you say, Emily, although I think, you know...

a British king going over to the United States to lecture the American Congress and the American president about the excesses of executive power.

If he feels that he's in a place where... History is having a good old chuckle.

It is in a funny old place.

I mean, you know, yeah, Trump is, for all of his successes, though, at least elected, so I suppose, you know, he's got that.

I mean, the only thing I'd say is I do think that we have sort of seen this story play out before, which is that, you know, we've had 10 years now of either royal or political visits in both sides and both directions of the Atlantic.

They do tend to have... This is slightly unusual because the king has certainly decided to make some subtle rebukes at or about Trump, although...

I think that can be exaggerated to some extent.

I mean, most of it is pretty lighthearted.

Ninety five, ninety nine percent of everything he was saying was the usual kind of traditional diplomatic guff about how close, you know, we are and all those sorts of things and special relationship.

And we have seen this play out before in the sense that, you know, let's be honest.

I mean, if anyone's expecting this to make any difference to anything Trump does, it clearly won't.
