Some of the vampire books and anime and stuff I was consuming back in the day, they played with this myth quite a lot.
And so that, yeah, it was just always something
have had on my radar and wanted to include.
Yeah, and that was something I really had to balance in writing this because when I first set out to write it, I always imagined that Raleigh was going to be evil and evil to the end and I probably got a week into it and went, yeah.
Too evil.
No, yeah, if they're too evil, it means that the protagonist is evil as well.
Like you cannot excuse, to a certain point you can't excuse, the second murder's involved, you can't excuse it without being like morally corrupt yourself.
And so then I had to sit back and say, well, okay, if Raleigh is evil,
actively killing people.
Why?
What is his excuse?
How could Clara excuse it?
And let's figure that out.
And so there was a lot of work of trying to work out Raleigh's motivations and ways that Clara could accept it.
And that all tied in with the consent things as well.
So, yeah, obviously I was very mindful of that.
intertwined with his general atrocities that he's committed, including murdering her mother.
There you go.
It's a really good question.
I think there's probably many angles to it.
