When there was no way I was going to be an actress and I was in college and my plan even on graduation was I'm going to go to graduate school and study evolutionary theory. Not going to be a doctor. That's fine. I'd come home for spring breaks. And I'd be driving around in L.A. and you'd hear on the radio a commercial for a new sitcom or a sitcom.

I'm driving along and I'd hear that joke, which would just be like, well, that's what she said last time. And I think, oh, my God. Why do they have to hit it so hard? Can't they just throw it away? That's what she said last time. And then the thought was, Lisa, please remember to throw it away when you do it. Oh. And I went, what? I'm not doing that. Right. But you always were.

You know, like that kind of thing. And I thought. Oh, my God, Lisa, when you're on Letterman, please try to be yourself. I'm like, yeah. Wait, when am I going to be on Letterman? For what?
