And this is the repeated conversation that's happening in the north of Ireland around femicide, women being killed largely by men who they know.
It is a very significant problem in the north of Ireland.
If you look at the statistics, they are significantly worse
than in, say, England or Wales.
It is heartbreaking that women in the North of Ireland feel the need to get out on the streets and protest, but they absolutely do, and that's what's been happening.
There were hundreds who gathered over the weekend at a vigil to remember Amy Doherty, who's a 28-year-old woman who was killed last week.
And, you know, it brings the number to 30 of women who've been killed in the North of Ireland since 2020, which is very significant when you think about the, you know, limited population of the North.
And, you know, I'm moved to see so many women taking to the streets, so many women taking to social media, so many women...
talking about this and saying that it's unacceptable because it is unacceptable it's disappointing that I'm not seeing more men talking about it to be honest and I was really impressed I did see one young man on TikTok talking about it over the course of the last week and he was like look you can call me a pick me if you want um he said but you know we we aren't calling out men on bad behavior enough he was like I'm not seeing men calling out their friends when their friends do something dodgy I'm not seeing men calling it out
everybody knows someone who has a reputation for being dodgy nobody's calling it out and I thought that was great to see we need more men involved in this conversation because women we are just exhausted talking about it I can't imagine how the women of the north are feeling at the moment when they have yet another case of a loss of life a tragic loss of life a completely unnecessary loss of life and you know
you get to the point where you just don't even know what to say like um like I feel like we've talked about violence against women over and over and over again on this podcast over and over and over again on this particularly obviously Monday news episode but you do kind of go at what point is something gonna happen like at what point will this be taken seriously at what point will there be a greater effort to change attitudes to women because this is just not acceptable and
And I just wanted to acknowledge the incredible work being done in the North by women who are calling attention to this and saying that it is not acceptable.
And to say how sorry I am that poor 28-year-old Amy Doherty's life is lost in the context of all of this.
Okay, let's get into the rest of the news with Carl Kintzler.
Good morning, Carl Kintzler.
My weekend was fine.
Poor Sam, my nine-year-old son, had like the worst bug I think he's ever had in like in terms of length.
He started getting sick on Tuesday and yesterday was the first day, like Sunday was the first day that he didn't vomit.
Like he had such a rough go of it and any parent knows that that means that you are also having
a rough go of it so uh it was pretty rough but I was just glad he was able to kind of we were able to get out of the house yesterday and actually like go and see the world a little bit nothing major but um yeah it was grand it was grand how was yours
