He had a lot of like kind of semi shady friends during the Soviet Union that would get these like jazz records that weren't supposed to be in the USSR.
So he always had these, you know,
Random recordings of things, oftentimes you wouldn't have a cover for it, so you had no idea who was playing it.
It was recorded over a Michael Bolton CD, but people weren't sure if it was Ella or Carmen.
But it was always, to me, it was the sound of America.
It's what America sounded like to me.
And I was always drawn to it.
I didn't speak English when we got here.
And the reason why I actually submitted to this is because I was talking to somebody and I mentioned you and I was like, I learned English pretty much from Conan, Family Guy, and Mr. Rogers.
