Many years ago, that data didn't just go straight across.
So people would receive that interest income and the banks would send out and they still actually send these certificates out like, hey, here's how much interest we paid you this year.
Part of it is because they're going, well, because it's your responsibility to put that into your tax return.
Whether people do or don't,
You know, that is up to them.
But the IRD's probably gone, hey, with technology and data, just give us that data so it goes automatically into your tax return these days from the likes of shares as well, from your interest from the banks.
That stuff is all going to go straight to the IRD.
Now, the reason that they don't have your side hustle income is because they don't know.
So they don't know if you're running one and therefore what the profits of that are, but it's still your responsibility to do it.
Don't shoot the messenger, just trying to educate you.

PowerSwitch General Manager said a recent survey showed 48% of households said they had considered installing solar.
That was up from 42% in 2022.
I saw that in an RNZ article.
Now, why I reference that is because all of my solar electrician clients are cranking at the moment.
And it just seems like there is a wave of demand for solar in the country.
