A hot take, as I'm going to explain later, is like an opinion, maybe an opinion that you've kind of fairly quickly thought of and that's maybe a bit unique.

So it's like my own personal opinion on a subject.

And if it's a hot take, it's like something that I've fairly recently thought of.

We'll come back to that.

Immigration is a hot political issue, for example.

Typical feelings...

anger, excitement, enthusiasm, disagreement, controversy.

These are all sort of included in the sense of this word hot here as it's used like this.

The idea is that emotions are metaphorically heated.

And then number five is hot meaning making things difficult.

This is used when there's pressure, trouble, danger, urgency.

For example, she's in hot water.
