So I thought, oh, I think we might be able to have a conversation then.
And that was in my head all the way through two flights of...
to get to Dharamsala in India, and then a long drive up a mountain, and then you see more and more monks walking up the hill to see him.
And I did start to get that sense of, oh, no, I've just flown around the world to fuck with this guy.
I hope this is going to be received in the way that I would like it to be received, because this could be real bad.
And when he came, I remember that day, a group of people had walked from Tibet to come see him.
And so he was late for the interview because he wanted to talk to all of them.
Fair.
And all they were saying was, please don't die.
You can't even fathom the pressure he's under.
I'm watching this happen thinking, likeâŠ
Had a bunch of questions like this.
Oh, some of this feels like it's in questionable taste right now.
But the first thing he did when he came in was he grabbed the sound guy's nose.
He said, you've got a big nose.
Grabbed him like a parent.
And then he looked at me and tickled me.
And I think it's a little odd, but I think he was trying to do a little of what we were talking about, like breaking down, like people are treating him like a deity and he needs to get rid of that context to be able to have a conversation.
I was still pretty nervous.
It took me like 20 minutes to calm down.
