But look at who we're talking about.
But look at who we're talking about.
And that's part of my problem with this is I understand the respect and I guess awe that Michael Reinsdorf has for Billy Donovan because if you hear just how glowingly he talks about him, I get it.
But the standard has been so low.
that you've been dealing with people who did not know what they were doing for the longest time.
And so, yes, that makes Billy Donovan, who's a good coach, look even better and look like the brightest basketball mind you've ever seen because look at what Michael Reinsdorf has been dealing with for the better part of two decades.
If he holds true to this, he will have an organization that is sputtering out of the blocks.
And we're not talking about a 100-meter race.
We're talking about a 5K race.
and if you sputter out of the blocks, not to say you can't overcome it, because again, it's not a 100-meter race, because that's over if it's 100 meters, but in a 5K, that's way too much work to catch up with the rest of the field.
And guess what?
They're already behind most, if not all, of the field.
I just want to see Billy Donovan, if everything is even.
I want him to be happy, first of all.
He's earned the position that he's in.
But the best thing for the Chicago Bulls right now...
is probably Billy Donovan walking away.
Because that way, Michael Reinsdorf is not held to this ridiculous standard of having a top basketball executive be forced to handcuff himself to a coach that wasn't necessarily his first, second, third, or fourth choice.
For Billy to basically just tell us in all of that that he said, check in with me next week because I still got to have this conversation.
That's what I heard there.
