It was orderly the way they approached this from an Indiana perspective as opposed to the much lauded about purchase of the Arlington Heights land and then trying to make everything fit together after the fact.
And so to see those two things go the way they went, I was like, okay, the Bears finally look like they have a plan in Indiana if it has to go that way.
Remember...
My whole thing is they want to build in Arlington Heights.
That is the first option, second option, third option, fourth option.
I said yesterday on the air, Layla, it's like when you're at home and you're like, what am I going to eat?
And you're out of food, but you've got that honey bun that's been in your cabinet for three years.
If you have to eat the honey bun, you will.
That's Indiana right now.
But they have no intention of eating the honey bun if they can avoid eating the honey buns.
Do you think that's just playing both sides, though, as far as letting it play out the way they want it to play out in order to get a favorable outcome, specifically with the Indiana?
Because they don't really need to have a plan right now in Indiana because they're still waiting to hear back from Illinois on what the plan is here.
It makes me wonder if there was another buyer out there, another offer on the table, and that's why they felt like they had to make the purchase at Arlington Heights.
That's the only thing that makes sense.
Otherwise, it is highly negligent to believe that they forced you to buy it.
If you don't have something else as an offer, why are you being forced to buy it?
That's the only thing that actually makes sense, Layla.
It's like, hey, we have this offer on the table, and George McCaskey and the Bears feel like they have to snap it up.
But I would say, even if that is the case...
They didn't do their due diligence of figuring out the tax certainty before making the purchase, and that's how they ended up here.
