What about it's better to be lucky than good?

Well... Or neither in this case.

It could help with the tanking issue, but then there's always that team or two that they're just naturally terrible.

And you could blame the GM or the front office, but those teams that need to be built up somehow a little bit, they're obviously going to suffer because they weren't tanking.

They're just naturally awful.

I mean, tanking, by definition, is throwing the game.

You're trying not to win the game, however you manage to do that.
