So Papadopoulos says that it was just a totally normal, uninteresting meeting.

He met with Downer.

He agrees they had G&Ts.

He says, I never said anything about Russia in this meeting.

And he also said that he thought that Alexander Downer was recording him.

On what?

On his phone.

He thought that he sort of recorded him on his phone throughout the meeting.

He said he felt very suspicious and odd during the conversation and that it was pretty short and he left.

Now, the crucial fact about this is...

is in the story of the investigation into the Trump campaign.

So this thing that led to James Comey, the FBI director, being fired and the years-long Robert Mueller investigation that caused so many problems for the first Trump administration.

The story the FBI told everyone was that this meeting between Papadopoulos and Downer was the beginning of the investigation.
