The newer system is expected to bring tropical storm conditions to portions of the central and northwest Bahamas this weekend.
As it moves north, there's also an increasing threat of heavy rainfall early next week in coastal Georgia, the Carolinas and southern mid-Atlantic states.
While the exact track remains uncertain, the National Weather Service says the system is expected to be at or near hurricane intensity when it approaches the southeast U.S.
