He probably trusted that the attorneys knew the true story. The thing is, he sat down in front of John Ramsey and said something that I don't think he ever should have said, which was, John, I believe you. Because the moment he did that, his credibility was shot. I mean, he told the rest of this team. He told Ramsey's lawyers. He said, you know what? My report will be oral.

If you want a written one, I'll give it to you. But anything I put in writing can be subpoenaed. I might find things that you don't like. And if I do, then I will have to include them in my report. What astonishes me is that he had this meeting with John Ramsey before he sat down with the detectives, before he had a chance to review any information.

And I proceeded to put all of this down in a book. And what I what really bothers me is him disparaging. And I don't think he's disparaging necessarily, but him writing down that things that Steve Thomas said weren't true. when his only evidence to the contrary was what John Ramsey told him.

So for those, in case you haven't seen Friday's episode yet, the fifth part in the JonBenet series, we covered three main things. One of them was the problem with the leaks, how information was being fed to the press, being fed to the Ramsey team's lawyers, and one of the things that the police had to do early on in this investigation was figure out where that was coming from.

We haven't gotten to it in the actual series yet, but for example, I covered the part where Larry Mason, Sergeant Larry Mason, was accused and actually suspended, investigated. He ended up suing of leaking information to CNN. And the reason that Eller suspected him was because... Steve Thomas reported to Eller that Mason was around the press a lot, that he seemed distracted.

He didn't really seem like he was investigating the case all that intensely, even though Mason and Thomas up to that point had a pretty good relationship. They had worked together a number of times. Mason had defended Thomas for certain things, like when Thomas was involved in some police-involved shootings. So this kind of broke down their relationship.

Mason is eventually investigated because Eller sets him up. He gives Mason information that then ends up in the press. Eventually, and I will spoil this for people now because I think what matters for you guys who watch this show is more having all the information to understand why we come from the position we do. Later on, Mason will be exonerated of that claim.

And then according to Detective Thomas, again, this is hearsay technically, but I've never seen Lawrence Schiller come out and deny that this happened. Thomas says later in his book that he had actually he says it at that part of the book that later on he had dinner with Lawrence Schiller, the author of Perfect Murder, Perfect Town.

And at that dinner, Schiller revealed to him that Mason, while having a conversation with Schiller for the same purpose, said, you know, it was me who was feeding Ali Krupsky information, right? Classic Krupsky didn't work for CNN. I think she was the Boulder daily camera. So she was local media.

So no, Mason did not leak anything to CNN, but it does seem because I've yet to see Schiller say this didn't happen. It does seem based on Thomas's book that Mason was leaking information to the press, just a different part of the press.
