Orthodox, it works much the same way, but there is no ban on marriage for people who wish to become priests. But you can get married and then become a priest without there being any special circumstance. You just can't be a priest and then get married. Got it. In the Anglican Church, there's no ban on it whatsoever.

as far as I understand good to know Yeah. I mean, the origin of the... They have all sorts of theological arguments for it in the Catholic Church. The origin of priestly celibacy in the Catholic Church is nepotism.

They didn't want priests elevating their own children into the priesthood, nor did they want bishoprics that held land getting passed down to sons who were not priests and therefore passing out of control of the church. So it... It was more an issue of feudalism than anything.

There was a whole controversy over it. I would imagine. The investiture controversy. There was a big fight between the Holy Roman Empire and the Vatican over who got to decide who was in charge of a bishopric.

Yeah, the church basically was like, hey... Our bishops need land to provide for it because of the way the feudal system worked. They were like, our bishops need lands to provide for their bishopric and to make sure that they have the money and the resources to do their work. So they need to be landed. And at the time, part of the feudal system, bishops would go to war.

It became, it's very, one of the most interesting things about Western European history after the fall of Rome is the way in which the Roman Empire did not die. It became the church. And that is not that the church killed the empire or that there was a coordinated, you know, reconfiguration of power. It was that the church recognized Rome provided order. Right.
